Honda Odyssey: Steering Issues & Multiple System Failures

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey everyone! My 2019 Honda Odyssey Hybrid is acting up. The steering wheel's shaking, power steering isn't working, and the ABS/DSC systems are down. I suspect the steering angle sensor might be faulty. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to know what repairs were done and how the workshop fixed it for you. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got some experience working on cars (moderate DIYer here). I had a similar issue with my 2017 Honda CR-V Hybrid last year. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing, steering wheel vibrations and those pesky warning lights! Took it to my regular workshop, and they found that the steering angle sensor needed recoding. The whole thing cost me 195 Euro, but it fixed all the issues completely. The mechanic mentioned this is actually more common in Hondas than you'd think. Before I share more specific details about my repair process, could you tell me if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, did these issues start suddenly or develop gradually? This would help me give you more relevant advice based on my experience. By the way, does your Odyssey have any other recent work done on the suspension or steering components? Sometimes these issues can be connected. Feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Odyssey just had its latest service two months ago, and I've got 59796 KM on the clock. The issues started pretty suddenly, just noticed it yesterday during my morning drive. Haven't gotten any error codes checked yet, but planning to do that tomorrow. The weird thing is, everything was working perfectly fine until now, and no work has been done on the suspension or steering recently. Your CR-V story sounds spot on though, same symptoms. Good to know about the steering angle sensor being a common issue. Was your repair completed in one day? Just trying to figure out if I need to arrange alternative transport. I'll keep you posted once I get those error codes!

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info! Yeah, my CR-V repair was done in just a few hours, dropped it off in the morning and picked it up after lunch. The actual recoding process only took about an hour, but they did some additional diagnostic checks just to be thorough. Since your symptoms started suddenly like mine did, and you haven't had any recent work done, I'm even more convinced it's probably the same issue. My CR-V had about 65000 KM when it happened, so we're in the same ballpark mileage-wise. One thing I forgot to mention, before taking it to the workshop, I tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes (some online suggested this might reset the sensor), but it didn't help. Save yourself the trouble and skip that step! Definitely get those error codes checked first though. My mechanic said that's super important for pinpointing the exact issue. When the codes came up on my CR-V, they all pointed to the steering angle sensor being out of calibration. Keep me posted about those error codes! And don't worry too much, while it's annoying, it's usually a straightforward fix. Most likely you won't need alternative transport for more than half a day.

I'd definitely appreciate that insight! Just disconnected and reconnected my battery actually, glad you mentioned it didn't work for you, saved me from trying it again! I've scheduled a diagnostic check for tomorrow morning at 9 AM. The workshop said they could probably get to it right away, so hopefully I'll have those error codes to share with you soon. It's really reassuring to hear your repair only took a few hours, that makes planning my day much easier. What's interesting is how similar our situations are, even down to the mileage. I'm just glad it's likely something straightforward like you mentioned, rather than a major steering or suspension issue. The sudden onset was what worried me initially, but hearing your experience makes me feel much better about it. I'll update you tomorrow once I've got those codes and know what we're dealing with. Thanks again for all the detailed info, it's super helpful having someone who's been through the same thing!
