Thanks for sharing your experience! It's definitely reassuring to hear someone else went through the same thing with their Honda hybrid. I'm actually planning to get it checked out this week. Would you mind telling me how much the TCU replacement set you back? Also curious if you've had any other transmission issues pop up since the repair? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for and whether I should budget for any potential follow-up work. Thanks!
Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Just wanted to let you know that after I got the TCU replaced on my CR-V, it's been running smooth as butter, absolutely no transmission issues since then. The repair totally fixed those annoying gear changes and that horrible grinding noise disappeared completely. About the cost, it set me back 1000€ for the whole job, including the new TCU and the programming work. Not exactly cheap, but worth every penny considering how well it's working now. And honestly, it's way better than risking damage to the entire transmission, which would've cost way more! Since you asked about follow-up work, nope, haven't needed any! Once they fixed the TCU, everything went back to normal. The transmission shifts perfectly now, just like when the car was new. So while the initial cost might seem steep, you probably won't need to budget for anything else transmission-related if your issue is similar to what mine was. Good luck with your repair! Let us know how it goes!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you were spot on, it was the TCU! Had a much better experience this time with a new mechanic who really knew his stuff. Ended up paying about the same as you did, and wow, what a difference! The transmission's shifting like a dream now, no more jerking or grinding sounds. Such a relief to have it fixed properly. The mechanic was super thorough and even showed me the old unit to explain what went wrong. Funny thing is, I was so worried about going to another mechanic after my last bad experience, but this guy totally restored my faith. He explained everything clearly and didn't try to upsell me on stuff I didn't need. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted before it turned into something worse. My Odyssey's running better than ever now!
Hey! I had very similar issues with my 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, rough gear changes and grinding noises during shifts. I had it diagnosed and it turned out to be a faulty TCU (Transmission Control Unit). Had to wait a few days for the part to arrive at the garage, but the repair itself wasn't super complex. They basically replaced the unit and reprogrammed the new TCU to sync with the car's computer system. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because leaving it unfixed could've damaged the transmission itself, which would've been much worse. The TCU controls all the shifting logic and timing, so when it fails, it can really mess up the whole transmission system. My advice? Get it checked ASAP. Any certified Honda dealer should be able to handle this, hybrid transmissions aren't that mysterious anymore. Better to fix it now than risk bigger transmission problems down the road.
