Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's got 240078 KM on the clock, and I've just had it serviced last month. My situation sounds pretty similar to what you went through. I mostly do short trips, which probably isn't helping the DPF situation. No other warning lights besides the check engine. Good to know about the forced regeneration fix, I've been worried about repair costs, so that price point gives me a rough idea of what to expect. Did you notice any warning signs before the check engine light came on? I'm wondering if I missed some early indicators.
Hi again! Thanks for those details. Yeah, looking at your mileage and driving pattern, it's definitely similar to what I experienced. Actually, thinking back, I did notice some warning signs before the check engine light came on, my CR-V started feeling a bit sluggish, especially during acceleration, and I was getting slightly worse fuel consumption. Just didn't connect the dots at first, you know how it goes! Since you mentioned short trips, that was exactly my problem too. The DPF needs those longer drives to complete its regeneration cycle properly. After my repair, my mechanic advised me to take the car for a 20-30 minute highway drive at least once a week, and I haven't had any issues since. One thing I learned from my experience, don't wait too long to get it checked out. I initially thought it might just sort itself out, but that only made things worse. The longer you wait, the more clogged the DPF gets, and it could end up being more expensive to fix. Not sure if you've noticed, but does your car feel particularly sluggish when going uphill? That was another telltale sign in my case. Let me know how you get on with the repair. I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue!
I'll complete the conversation from's perspective: Thanks for all that additional info, it's really helpful! Yes, now that you mention it, I have noticed the sluggishness on hills lately, and my fuel economy has definitely taken a hit. I just wasn't connecting those dots either! That's a great tip about the weekly longer drives. I'll definitely try to change my driving patterns once it's fixed. I'm going to book it in at the workshop tomorrow, don't want to risk making it worse by waiting. The symptoms match yours exactly, so I'm pretty confident it's the same issue. You've really put my mind at ease about this whole situation. It's so helpful to hear from someone who's been through the same thing. I'll update you once I get it checked out, fingers crossed it's just a DPF clean needed and nothing more serious! Thanks again for taking the time to help me out with this.
Hi there! I have some experience with cars and went through something very similar with my 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid (also own an Insight). Had the exact same symptoms, check engine light, power loss, and DPF issues. Took it to my regular workshop and they found the DPF was severely clogged. They had to do a forced regeneration and clean the entire system. It wasn't cheap, set me back about 1325 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Just to help more specifically with your case, How many miles/kilometers on your Odyssey? What's your typical driving pattern (short trips or longer drives)? Any other warning lights showing up? These details would help me understand if you're facing the exact same issue I had.
