Honda NBox: Radio & Nav Screen Mysteriously Dead, Help!

Navigationssystem is not working

|

No sound of the Audiosystem

Hey everyone! My 2017 Honda NBox has a complete audio system failure. Both radio and nav screen are totally dead, no sound, no display, nothing. I suspect it might be related to the audio control unit, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar issues on their NBox? Would really appreciate hearing about successful fixes and workshop experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience with car audio systems, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2019 Honda Jazz. The main culprit in my case was a defective bass speaker that ended up messing with the entire audio system. Took it to my regular workshop, and they initially thought it was the head unit. After running some diagnostics, they found that the bass speaker was causing a short circuit, which made the whole system shut down. The fix wasn't complicated, but it set me back about 280 Euro for parts and labor. To better help you out, Have you noticed any crackling sounds before it died completely? Did you recently get any water damage or exposure? Does your steering wheel audio control still light up? I know the NBox has a slightly different setup than my Jazz, but these issues can be pretty similar across Honda models. Let me know these details, and I might be able to share more specific advice!

Thanks for the detailed response! My NBox is at 73870 KM and had its last service just two months ago. Actually, now that you mention it, I did notice some crackling sounds from the front right speaker about a week before everything went dead. The steering wheel controls still light up normally, and there's been no water exposure that I'm aware of. I was hoping it wouldn't be a costly fix, but if it's similar to your Jazz situation, I guess I should prepare my wallet! Would you recommend having the entire speaker system checked while they're at it? Just want to avoid repeated trips to the workshop.

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your NBox. You know, hearing about those crackling sounds from your front right speaker really rings a bell, that's exactly how my Jazz problems started too! Since your symptoms are so similar to what I experienced, I'd definitely recommend getting the whole speaker system checked. When my Jazz was being fixed, I actually insisted on a full system diagnosis, and I'm glad I did. They found that while the bass speaker was the main problem, two other speakers were also showing early signs of wear. Got them all sorted in one go, and it saved me from another workshop visit a few months later. One thing I learned from my experience, while it might seem more expensive upfront to check everything, it's actually more cost-effective in the long run. Also, since your NBox has decent mileage (mine was around 65000 KM when I had the issue), it's a good time for a thorough audio system inspection anyway. Quick tip: If your workshop offers it, ask them to check the wiring harness connections too. In my case, they found some loose connections while doing the speaker replacement, and fixing those actually improved the overall sound quality! Let me know how it goes, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as my Jazz had!

Thanks so much for all the helpful advice! You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll definitely take your suggestion about getting the complete system checked, better to catch any potential issues now rather than dealing with multiple workshop visits. The tip about the wiring harness is really valuable too, I wouldn't have thought to ask about that. I've just booked an appointment with a workshop for next week. I'll make sure to mention the crackling sounds and ask them to check everything you suggested. Fingers crossed it's just a speaker issue like your Jazz and not something more complicated with the head unit! I'll update you once I get it sorted. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's been super helpful in knowing what to expect and what to ask for at the workshop. Thanks again!
