Honda NBox Electrical Gremlins: Starting & Locking Issues

Locking/Unlocking issue

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone! My 2014 Honda NBox (123,868 KM) has been giving me headaches lately. The dash warning light is on, having trouble with the central locking, and the car sometimes refuses to start. I suspect it might be the ignition key Hall sensor since all these issues started around the same time. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their NBox? Would love to hear about your experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Also, any recommendations on what to look out for when getting this fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2011 Honda Life (similar platform to NBox). The symptoms were spot on, central locking going crazy, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, and occasional no-starts. Took it to the garage last month thinking it was the Hall sensor too, but turns out the key cylinder assembly was failing. The insertion slot was worn out and wasn't making proper contact with the immobilizer chip in the key. The mechanic had to replace the entire cylinder unit and reprogram a new key. It was a serious fix because it's a security component, can't just swap parts without proper programming. The whole job took about 3 hours since they needed special diagnostic equipment to sync everything. Since the repair, all those annoying symptoms disappeared completely. Based on your description, I'd bet you're dealing with the same issue. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with Honda immobilizer systems. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! This definitely sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Just wanna make sure I'm prepared for what might come. Cheers!

Hey again! Yep, happy to report everything's been working perfectly since I got it fixed! Got it sorted last month and all those annoying problems completely disappeared. The total bill came to 290€, mostly for the Insertion slot that was acting up. They also checked out the Hall sensor while they were at it, and that needed a bit of attention too, but it was all part of the same job. I know it wasn't exactly cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car starts first time, every time now, no more standing there looking like a fool with a key that wouldn't work! The central locking's working perfectly too, and my dash is finally back to normal instead of lighting up like a disco. Haven't noticed any other issues since the repair. But here's a tip, while they've got it open, get them to check the whole ignition assembly. Better to catch any potential problems while they're already in there, you know? Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I bit the bullet and took it to a Honda specialist yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was the key cylinder assembly! Got it all fixed up, including a new key programmed. Cost me a bit more than yours at 340€, but they did a full check of the ignition system while they were at it. The mechanic was actually super helpful and showed me exactly what was worn out. Amazing what a tiny worn part can do to mess up so many systems! The car's running like a dream now, no more warning lights, central locking works perfectly, and it starts first time, every time. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted instead of putting it off. Guess sometimes you just need to hear from someone who's been through the same thing! Thanks again for all your help!
