Honda Mobilio DPF Nightmare: Black Smoke & Sluggish Engine

DPF regeneration failure

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2019 Honda Mobilio diesel (223k km). Getting black smoke when I hit the gas, engine light is on, and the car feels really sluggish. Pretty sure it's DPF related since I'm getting that strong diesel smell and the exhaust is super loud. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'd love to hear from others who've dealt with similar DPF issues. What was your experience and how did you resolve it? Were repair costs reasonable? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had a similar situation with my 2016 Honda CR-V diesel last year at 195k km. The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced, black smoke, sluggish performance, and that unmistakable diesel smell. Turned out my DPF had internal damage, not just clogging. The ceramic honeycomb structure inside was partially collapsed, which explained why regular regeneration cycles weren't helping. This was actually a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent engine damage. The garage found metal fragments inside the DPF during inspection, so they had to replace the entire unit plus clean the exhaust system. They also checked the engine management system since these issues often go hand in hand. I was back on the road in 3 days. If you're getting black smoke, that's typically a red flag for DPF failure rather than just blockage. I'd suggest getting it checked soon before it affects other components. Give your mechanic detailed info about when these symptoms started and your driving patterns, it really helps with diagnosis.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear from someone who's been through this. After reading about your CR-V repair, I'm pretty sure my Mobilio's having the exact same issue. Especially with that part about the black smoke being a red flag for DPF failure, that's got me worried. Mind if I ask how much the whole repair ended up costing you? And has everything been running smoothly since then? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for.

Hey again! Great news, I can actually give you a proper update now! Just had my CR-V fixed last week and it's running like a dream. The total bill came to 1550€ which, yeah, wasn't exactly pocket change, but it was worth every penny. They found the DPF was internally defective, just like I suspected. The best part? That annoying DPF remaining mileage warning has completely disappeared. No more warning lights, no more black smoke, and the engine's got its punch back. It's honestly like driving a different car now. I know the repair cost might sound steep, but considering what could've happened if I'd left it longer (engine damage, anyone?), I reckon it was money well spent. The car's been perfect since the fix, smooth running, quiet exhaust, and back to its old fuel efficiency. If you're seeing the same symptoms I had, definitely get it checked out soon. These DPF issues only get worse (and more expensive!) if you leave them too long. Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks so much for all the details! After hearing about your repair experience and costs, I actually bit the bullet and took my Mobilio to a different mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was definitely the DPF. Just got it back today and wow, what a difference! Cost me a bit less than yours at 1300€, but totally worth it. The black smoke is gone, the engine feels powerful again, and that horrible diesel smell has disappeared. Can't believe I waited so long to get it fixed! The mechanic also mentioned I was lucky to bring it in when I did, apparently, it could've caused some serious engine damage if left unchecked. They showed me the old DPF and it was pretty much destroyed inside, just like you described. Really grateful for your advice, it helped me make the right decision instead of putting it off any longer. Car's running like new now! Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped point me in the right direction.
