Honda Mobilio DPF Issues: Black Smoke and Power Loss

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

|

Unsteady engine

|

Poor fuel economy

|

DPF regeneration failure

Hey everyone! Having serious trouble with my 2021 Honda Mobilio diesel (87k km). The engine's acting up, black smoke when I accelerate, power loss, and rough running. DPF light's flashing and fuel consumption is terrible. The check engine light is also on. Pretty sure it's the DPF, but had a terrible experience with my last mechanic. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and did you find a reliable fix? Really want to avoid getting ripped off again. Thanks for any advice!

Hey there! I experienced almost identical issues with my 2018 Honda CR-V diesel last year at 92k km. The symptoms matched yours exactly, black smoke, power loss, and that annoying DPF light flashing. Took it to the garage and they confirmed the DPF was internally defective, the honeycomb structure had partially collapsed. A forced regeneration wouldn't solve it. They had to replace the entire DPF unit and clean the sensors. It was quite a serious job that took two days. This definitely wasn't something to ignore, running with a faulty DPF can damage your engine in the long run. The black smoke was actually unburnt fuel, which explained my terrible fuel economy. Since the repair, the car's been running like new, no more smoke, full power restored, and normal fuel consumption. Just make sure you get a warranty on any replacement parts. Hope this helps!

Hey! That's exactly what happened to my Mobilio too! You described the symptoms spot on. I got mine fixed last spring and it turned out to be the DPF issue as well. The mechanics replaced the unit and did a full sensor cleaning. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks popping up? Cheers!

Hey again! Glad I could help identify the problem! Yeah, I bit the bullet and got it fixed at the dealer, cost me 1550€ all in. They sorted out the internally defective DPF and did a thorough job with all the sensors. I'm happy to report my CR-V's been running absolutely brilliant since the repair, like a completely different car! No more black smoke, got all my power back, and fuel consumption's back to normal. It's been about 15k km since the fix, and honestly, not a single problem or warning light since. Best money I've spent on the car, to be honest. The mechanic said catching it when we did probably saved me from some serious engine damage down the line. Just make sure you stick to the recommended service intervals and give it a good run on the motorway now and then to help with regeneration. Let me know if you need any other info, happy to help!

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my car. Finally took it to a new mechanic last week, what a different experience! They were super professional and diagnosed the exact same issue you had. Ended up costing me a bit less than yours, around 1300€ for the whole job. They replaced the DPF unit and cleaned everything up. The mechanic really took time to explain everything and even showed me the damaged parts. The difference is incredible! No more black smoke, engine's running smooth as butter, and my fuel consumption has dropped back to normal. Such a relief! Took it for a good long drive yesterday and it felt like driving a new car. Really appreciate your advice, it helped me avoid getting ripped off again and gave me confidence to get it sorted properly. Definitely learned my lesson about regular maintenance too! Thanks again for all your help!
