Honda Legend AC Blowing Hot? Compressor Issues Explained

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey everyone! I have a 2000 Honda Legend that recently started blowing warm air from the AC. I suspect the AC compressor might be disengaging but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Would like to know what repairs were needed and how your mechanic fixed it. Any tips would be really appreciated.

Hi there! I had a similar issue with my '98 Honda Accord last summer. I'd say I have low experience with cars, mostly just basic maintenance stuff. The symptoms were exactly like yours, AC started blowing warm air suddenly. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out the AC compressor clutch was failing. The mechanic showed me how the compressor wasn't engaging properly. Total repair cost me around 625 Euro, including parts and labor. Quick question, have you noticed any unusual noises when you turn the AC on? That could help pinpoint if it's the same issue. Also, what's your mileage? Would be helpful to know to better assist you. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more details about my repair experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Legend has 220019 KM on the clock, and I just had it serviced last month. Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed a slight clicking sound when turning the AC on. It's not super loud, but definitely noticeable. Your experience with the compressor clutch sounds very similar to what I'm dealing with. That price range helps give me a better idea of what to expect. Did your repair include just the clutch replacement or did they have to swap the entire compressor unit? Just trying to prepare myself for what's ahead!

Hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your Legend. Yeah, that clicking sound you're hearing is exactly what I experienced with my Accord before getting it fixed! In my case, they initially tried to just replace the clutch assembly since it's usually the cheaper option. But after inspection, my mechanic found that the compressor shaft had some wear too, so we ended up replacing the entire compressor unit. That's actually why my bill came to 625 Euro, it was more than just a clutch job. With your mileage being similar to what mine was (I was at about 210000 KM when this happened), it makes sense you're having these issues now. These parts typically start showing their age around this point. Quick tip from my experience, when they do the repair, make sure they flush the AC system properly. My mechanic explained this helps prevent any debris from the old compressor from causing problems with the new one. Also, they'll need to recharge the system with fresh refrigerant. Let me know how it goes! Always happy to share what I learned from my repair journey.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation! That's really helpful to know about the system flush, definitely something I'll mention when I take it in. I'm actually a bit relieved to hear your experience was so similar to what I'm dealing with. At least now I know what I'm likely facing. I'll probably schedule an appointment with my mechanic next week to get it properly diagnosed. Good call on mentioning the full compressor replacement possibility, I'll make sure to budget for both scenarios. The clicking sound matching your experience pretty much confirms my suspicions about the compressor clutch. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this info, especially the tip about the system flush. It's exactly the kind of firsthand experience I was hoping to hear about. I'll update once I get it sorted out!
