Honda Jazz Overheating? Thermostat May Be The Culprit

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hi everyone! My 2018 Honda Jazz (79,500 km) has been giving me trouble lately. The engine keeps overheating and the check engine light won't go off. I suspect it might be the coolant thermostat, but after a previous bad experience with a mechanic, I'm a bit hesitant. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Jazz? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and if you could recommend what to look out for when getting it fixed. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2015 Honda Civic last year. The symptoms started just like yours, overheating engine and persistent check engine light. Initially thought it was the thermostat too, but when I took it to the garage, they found significant damage to the wiring harness. Apparently, some wires had worn out, causing incorrect readings from various sensors, including the coolant temperature sensor. The repair involved replacing part of the wiring harness and installing new sensors. It was pretty serious since faulty readings could've led to severe engine damage if left unchecked. The job took about two days to complete, but it fixed the problem completely. Based on my experience, I'd suggest getting the wiring checked along with the thermostat. These issues aren't always straightforward, and it's worth having a thorough diagnostic done by a certified mechanic. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks for sharing that info! It's really helpful to know about the wiring harness issue, that's something I definitely wouldn't have considered. Quick question though, do you remember roughly how much the repairs set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if I should expect any follow-up issues. Ta!

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, yep, everything's been running like a dream since I got it fixed! The mechanic confirmed it was actually both issues we suspected, the coolant thermostat was acting up AND there was damage to the wiring harness. Ended up costing me 110€ for sorting out the wiring damage, which honestly wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The best part? No more check engine light, no more overheating, and my Civic's been purring like a kitten ever since. Haven't had a single problem in the months since the repair. Looking back, I'm just glad I got it sorted before it could cause any serious engine damage. For what it's worth, I'd say you're on the right track getting it checked out now. Better to catch these things early, right? Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You won't believe it, turned out my issue was pretty similar to yours! Had both the thermostat and some wiring problems sorted. The mechanic was really thorough and explained everything clearly. They found a small leak in the cooling system too, which they fixed while they were at it. The whole job took about a day and a half, and honestly, the cost wasn't as scary as I'd imagined. The best part? My Jazz is running perfectly now, no more check engine light and the temperature gauge stays exactly where it should. Such a relief! Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me know what to expect and gave me the push I needed to get it checked out properly. Time to enjoy my trouble-free driving again! Cheers!
