Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got 274853 KM on my Jazz, and it was just serviced last month. Haven't noticed any other electrical gremlins, and it happens regardless of weather conditions. Interesting that you mentioned the plug connection, that's definitely more reassuring than thinking it might be a major electrical fault! Good to know it was a straightforward fix on your Insight. My hands are pretty capable with basic maintenance, so I might take a look at the connections first before heading to a mechanic. Would you happen to know if the plug location is similar in the Jazz?
Hey again! Yeah, the plug locations should be fairly similar since we're talking about Honda hybrids. On my Insight, the main connection points were behind the headlight assembly and near the fuse box. Since you're handy with maintenance, I'll share what I learned during my repair journey. First, check the main harness connector behind the headlight assembly, that's where my issue was. It had some corrosion build-up, which was causing the intermittent problems. You'll need to remove a few plastic clips to access it, but nothing too complicated. Just be careful with those clips, they can be a bit fragile! Since you've got higher mileage than I had when this happened (mine was around 180,000 KM), it might also be worth checking the switch itself. The contacts can wear down over time. When you're checking connections, look for any green-colored corrosion or loose pins. I actually tried cleaning the connections myself first with electrical contact cleaner before going to the mechanic. It helped temporarily but didn't solve the issue completely. That's when I found out about that faulty plug. If you're going to attempt it yourself, just make sure to disconnect the battery first, learned that one the hard way! Let me know what you find when you check those connections. Maybe we can save you that repair bill!
Thanks so much for the detailed advice! Really appreciate you walking me through the potential fixes. I'll definitely start by checking those connection points you mentioned, starting with the headlight assembly and fuse box area. Good call on the battery disconnect tip too, definitely don't want any surprises there! I've got some electrical contact cleaner in my garage from a previous project, so I'll give that a shot first. Even if it ends up being temporary like in your case, at least it'll help me figure out if I'm dealing with the same issue. Those plastic clips always make me nervous though, might grab some spares before I start just in case! If I can't sort it myself, at least I know what to expect cost-wise at the mechanic. Really helpful to know it was around 222€ for your repair. Fingers crossed it's just some corroded connections I can clean up! I'll update the forum once I've had a chance to dig into it this weekend. Thanks again for sharing your experience, super helpful!
Hey there! I'm a Honda owner too, and I had a similar issue with my 2013 Honda Insight (also had a chance to drive the CR-Z). I have some experience working with cars, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My lights were doing exactly what you're describing, turning on unusually and the switch wasn't working properly. Took it to my regular mechanic and turned out it was just a faulty plug connection in the lighting system. The fix cost me about 222€, but it was worth it because the problem hasn't come back since. Before we dive deeper, could you tell me if you notice any other electrical issues? Like, does it happen more when it's humid or after washing the car? Also, have you had any recent work done on the electrical system?
