Honda Greiz Overheating: Bad Aux Pump To Blame?

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey everyone! My 2019 Honda Greiz with the gas engine is giving me trouble. The engine's overheating and the check engine light came on. I suspect it might be the auxiliary coolant pump acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and gotten it fixed? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual issue turned out to be.

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2017 Honda Civic (I also own an Accord). I've got some experience working on cars, though I'm no expert. When my engine was overheating with the check engine light on, I first thought it was the coolant pump too. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty cable connection that was messing with the cooling system sensors. The fix cost me around 170 Euro, not too bad considering I was worried it might be something major! What's your current coolant level like? Have you noticed any leaks under the car? Also, does the temperature gauge show consistent readings, or does it fluctuate? These details would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for your input! Mine's at 61575 KM, and I just had it serviced last month. Haven't spotted any leaks, but the temperature gauge has been bouncing around a bit lately. I'll definitely check those cable connections you mentioned. It's a relief to hear it might not be the pump itself, was getting worried about a major repair bill! Have you had any issues since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Glad to hear back from you. Yeah, I remember being pretty worried about my Civic too when I had those symptoms. Since you mentioned the temperature gauge fluctuating, that's exactly what mine was doing! And with similar mileage too (mine was around 63000 KM when it happened). After getting those cable connections fixed, it's been running smooth for about 8 months now. No issues at all! But here's something I learned, turns out these temperature fluctuations can sometimes be tricky to diagnose. While my issue was the cable connection, my mechanic mentioned it could also be related to the thermostat getting sticky. Since you just had it serviced, maybe check with your service center if they did a thorough inspection of the cooling system? Sometimes these symptoms start showing up gradually after a service, not saying they did anything wrong, but worth asking about. Quick tip from my experience, while you're getting it checked, might be worth having them look at the radiator fan operation too. These things tend to be connected, you know? Keep me posted on what you find out! Really curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've definitely made me feel better about this whole situation. I'll give my service center a call tomorrow and specifically ask about those cable connections and the thermostat. Come to think of it, I did notice the fluctuations starting gradually after the service, just didn't connect the dots until you mentioned it! I really appreciate the tip about checking the radiator fan too, makes total sense to look at the whole cooling system while they're at it. It's such a relief to hear your Civic's been running smoothly since the fix. I was honestly dreading having to replace the whole pump, so fingers crossed it's just something minor like in your case. I'll definitely update you once I get it checked out. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful!
