Honda Freed Overheating: Bad Water Pump Warning Signs

Hey all, having issues with my 2022 Honda Freed. Check engine light is on, engine's overheating, coolant keeps dropping, and got a warning light on the dash. I suspect the auxiliary water pump might be failing. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to know what your mechanic diagnosed and how they fixed it. Any tips on troubleshooting would help a lot. Thanks!

I have some experience working on cars, and I dealt with something very similar on my 2020 Honda Jazz. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced. The warning lights, overheating, and coolant issues had me worried too! Took it to my trusted mechanic who found a defective cable connection to the water pump control unit. The repair cost me about 225 Euro, but it fixed the issue completely. No more warning lights or overheating since then! Can you provide more details about when these symptoms started? Also, did you notice any unusual noises from the engine bay? My Jazz made a slight buzzing sound before things got worse. If you share more info about the symptoms, I might be able to help further. By the way, have you checked if there's visible coolant leakage? That's something you can easily spot by looking under the car after it's been parked for a while.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Freed actually started having these issues right after my latest service about 2 weeks ago (247495 KM). I've noticed a faint whirring sound coming from the engine bay, especially when the car's been running for a while. No visible coolant leaks under the car, but the level keeps dropping every few days. Good to know about that cable connection issue, I'll definitely mention that to my mechanic. The weird thing is, the buzzing sound you mentioned is exactly what I'm hearing! Maybe it's the same problem. Did you notice any performance issues before getting it fixed? My engine feels a bit sluggish, especially when accelerating from a stop.

Hey there again! (Replying as Man, that's crazy how similar our issues are! Yeah, when you mentioned that whirring sound, I got flashbacks to my Jazz acting up. Mine also felt sluggish before the fix, especially during those first few seconds of acceleration. It's like the car was hesitating, right? The timing of your issues starting after the service is interesting. You know what? My problems actually started after a routine maintenance too! Makes me wonder if something got knocked loose during the service. With your mileage being quite up there, there could be some wear and tear on the connectors too. That buzzing sound is really the key here. In my case, it got louder over about a week before I finally got it fixed. Since you're experiencing the same symptoms, the buzzing, the sluggishness, coolant issues, I'm even more convinced it's that control unit connection. Quick tip: while you're waiting to get it to the mechanic, keep an extra close eye on your temperature gauge. That's what saved my engine from any serious damage. If you see it climbing too high, better pull over and let it cool down. Let me know what your mechanic says. I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You're totally right, that hesitation during acceleration is exactly what I'm experiencing. It's actually a relief to hear someone else had the same problem and got it fixed without major drama. I'm definitely keeping a close watch on that temperature gauge now. The buzzing hasn't gotten louder yet, but I'm not taking any chances. I've already booked an appointment with my mechanic for tomorrow morning. Will specifically ask them to check the water pump control unit connection. Really appreciate you mentioning the service connection too, makes me think I should bring that up with my mechanic as well. The timing is just too coincidental to ignore. I'll update this thread once I get it diagnosed and fixed. Hopefully it'll be as straightforward as your repair was. Thanks again for all your help, it's been super reassuring to know I'm not alone in dealing with this!
