Honda Elysion Stalling: Bad Crankshaft Sensor?

Hey all! Got some serious issues with my 2010 Honda Elysion (150k km, gas engine) and need your input. My engine's been acting up lately, unusually shutting off, struggling to start when cold, and running rough. Check engine light is on and I've noticed significant power loss. I think it might be the crankshaft sensor based on what I've read. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm looking for advice from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. Did it turn out to be the crankshaft sensor? How much did the repair cost you? Any recommendations on what to look out for when getting it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had the exact same symptoms on my 2013 Honda Legend last year, unusual stalling, rough starts, and power issues. The crankshaft sensor was definitely the culprit in my case. At the garage, they found the wiring harness was badly corroded and had some loose connections near the sensor. The mechanic showed me how the damaged wiring was causing intermittent signals, leading to all those problems. They had to replace both the sensor and the wiring harness. It was a pretty serious issue since the car could've died at any moment, not something you want happening on a busy road. The repair took about 3 hours total. Make sure whoever works on it checks the entire wiring harness, not just the sensor itself. A faulty connection can mimic a bad sensor. Since the fix, my Legend's been running like new, no more stalling or rough starts. Definitely worth getting it checked out ASAP. Hope this helps with your decision!

Hey, thanks for sharing that info about your Legend! Those symptoms do sound exactly like what I'm dealing with. Great to hear you got it sorted out. I've made an appointment to get mine checked out tomorrow. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Really appreciate your help with this!

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! After getting my Legend fixed last year, I paid 170€ for the repair, they had to replace the wiring harness and fix some connector issues near the crankshaft sensor. Honestly, considering how serious the problem was, I thought it was pretty reasonable. The best part? My car's been running absolutely perfect since then! No more of those scary unusual stalls or rough starts. It's like having a completely different car, smooth as butter now. Haven't had a single issue pop up related to that repair. Just make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks the wiring harness and connections like mine did, that was really the root of the problem in my case. Let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow! I'm betting you'll notice a huge difference once it's fixed. Good luck with the repair! Trust me, you'll be relieved once it's sorted.

Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to update you all! am I glad I took it in. Turns out you were spot on, it was definitely the crankshaft sensor and some dodgy wiring causing all the trouble. The mechanic was super thorough and actually showed me the corroded wiring, it was in pretty bad shape. They replaced both the sensor and fixed up the wiring harness. Bill came to about 200 for parts and labor, which wasn't too bad considering the peace of mind it's given me. Took it for a test drive afterward and wow, what a difference! The engine's running smooth as silk now, no more unusual shutoffs or rough starts. It's like driving a completely different car. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me push to get this sorted out. Now I can finally drive without constantly watching the check engine light!
