Honda Elysion Power Loss: Seeking DIY Diagnosis Help

Shaking while idling

Hi everyone! My 2012 Honda Elysion (291k km) is giving me some trouble and I need your input after a sketchy mechanic experience. The car's been acting up with power loss, rough idling, and jerking during acceleration. Check engine light is on too. Looking at the symptoms, I'm suspecting it might be the tank ventilation system or DMTL valve. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Really want to avoid getting ripped off at the mechanic again. Thanks for your help!

Hey there! I had nearly identical symptoms with my 2015 Honda Pilot last month. The rough idle, power loss, and jerking during acceleration turned out to be exactly what you're suspecting, faulty vent lines running from the gas tank to the purge valve. When I took it to the garage, they found that the vent lines had developed tiny cracks and were causing the EVAP system to malfunction. This was actually a serious issue since it affects emissions control and fuel system pressure, which explains the performance problems you're experiencing. In my case, they had to replace the vent lines and do a complete system check to ensure there weren't any other leaks. The fix itself wasn't too complex, but it definitely needed proper diagnosis and replacement parts. My advice? Get it checked soon, driving with compromised vent lines can lead to bigger issues with the fuel delivery system. Hope this helps!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Pilot. It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through something so similar. That's exactly what my Elysion's been doing, seems like those vent lines might be the culprit after all. Would you mind telling me how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Yes, I can totally help with those details. I actually just got my Pilot fixed last week, the repair cost me 205€ for replacing those faulty vent lines, and I've got to say, it was worth every penny! Since getting it sorted, my Pilot's running like a dream, no more jerking, rough idling, or power loss issues. That check engine light that was bugging me? Gone! The DMTL valve error has completely disappeared too. It's amazing what a difference fixing those cracked vent lines made. I'm actually kicking myself for not getting it checked sooner. The car feels so much smoother now, and my fuel efficiency seems better too (though maybe that's just me being optimistic ). Trust me, if your Elysion's showing the same symptoms, getting those vent lines checked and replaced will make a world of difference. It's not the cheapest fix, but it's definitely cheaper than letting it develop into something more serious! Let me know how it goes if you get it fixed!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and what a relief! You were spot on, it was the vent lines causing all the trouble. Got them replaced and had them do a full system check while they were at it. Ended up paying a bit more than you did, around 275€, but honestly, it was totally worth it. The difference in how my Elysion drives now is like night and day! No more jerking during acceleration, the idle is smooth as butter, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Even my fuel gauge seems to be reading more accurately now. Really glad I asked here first, helped me avoid getting ripped off and gave me the confidence to push back when the first mechanic tried quoting me nearly double for the same job! Thanks again for sharing your experience. You really saved me from a potential headache and a much bigger repair bill!
