Honda Crosstour Transmission Issues? Check These Signs

Check engine light on

|

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hi all. My 2010 Honda Crosstour is acting up lately. The check engine light came on and I'm dealing with erratic transmission shifts and slipping. I suspect it might be related to the transmission selector lever, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Crosstour? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Any tips on what to look for or ask the mechanic would be really helpful.

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I actually dealt with something very similar on my 2012 Honda Accord (also had an issue with my 's Civic). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, erratic shifting and that annoying check engine light. Turned out the cable connection on my shift selector was damaged, causing weird transmission behavior. Took it to my regular mechanic who spotted the issue pretty quickly. The repair involved replacing the shift cable and some connectors, set me back about 365 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Before you head to the shop though, Does it make any unusual sounds when shifting? Have you noticed if it's worse when the engine is cold or warm? Are you getting any specific error codes with that check engine light? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Better to get it checked soon, these things usually don't fix themselves and could get worse.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's at 146811 KM and just had its service last month. Yeah, I'm definitely getting those weird clunking sounds when shifting, especially when the engine's cold in the morning. Haven't checked the error codes yet, but your suggestion about the shift cable makes a lot of sense given the symptoms. Will check with my mechanic and have them take a closer look at the cable connection and connectors. Thanks for the heads up about the cost too, helps me know what to expect. Better to fix it now than wait for it to get worse!

Hey again! Really glad I could help with the initial advice. After reading about those clunking sounds you're getting, especially during cold starts, I'm even more convinced it's similar to what I dealt with on my Accord. You know what's funny? My issues also started showing up right after hitting the 145K mark, and those morning cold-start clunks were exactly what I experienced. These Hondas are usually bulletproof, but that shift cable assembly seems to be a common wear point around this mileage. Quick tip from my experience, when my mechanic fixed mine, he also noticed the shift cable bushings were pretty worn. I had him replace those too while he was in there. Cost a bit extra but totally worth it for the smoother shifting. And honestly, after getting it all fixed, it shifts like new again! Keep us posted on what your mechanic finds. If it does turn out to be the shift cable like mine, you're looking at a pretty straightforward fix. Oh, and make sure they check the transmission fluid level and condition while they're at it, it's always good to rule out the basics!

Thanks so much for the follow-up info! That's super helpful about the bushings, I'll definitely mention that to my mechanic. It's actually reassuring to hear that yours started acting up around the same mileage too. Makes me feel better knowing it's probably just normal wear and tear rather than something more serious. I've actually booked it in for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to ask them to check both the shift cable and those bushings you mentioned. Really smart tip about checking the transmission fluid too, wouldn't have thought of that! I'll drop back in here once I know what they find. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about dealing with this!
