Honda Crosstour Key Fob Woes: Dead Battery or Something More?

Locking/Unlocking issue

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi everyone! Having trouble with my 2009 Honda Crosstour. The key fob started acting up, can't lock/unlock properly, and there's a warning light on the dash. I suspect it might be the ignition key battery, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would love to hear what exactly was wrong and how your mechanic fixed it. Looking for real experiences before heading to the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I have some experience with cars, and I dealt with a similar issue on my 2011 Honda Accord (also owned a Civic before). Had the exact same symptoms, key fob wasn't working properly, and I got those warning lights. Took it to my regular workshop, and yep, it was just a dead battery in the key fob. Super simple fix, they replaced it in like 5 minutes, cost me around 37€. No more issues since then! Does the car still start normally? How long have you noticed these symptoms? Is the physical key part still working when you manually use it? I know this stuff can be stressful, but it's usually a quick and cheap fix if it's just the key battery!

Thanks for the info! Yep, I've got those same symptoms with my Crosstour (268394 KM). The car still starts fine, and I can use the physical key manually, but it's been acting up for about a week now. Really appreciate the heads up about the battery replacement, that's way less scary than what I was imagining! Nice to hear it might be such a simple fix. I'll probably head to the workshop tomorrow to get it sorted. Just had my service last month too, kinda wish I'd noticed it then!

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get what you mean about wishing you'd caught it during the service, same thing happened to me with my Accord! Since you mentioned it starts fine and the physical key works, that's actually really good news. It's behaving exactly like mine did. And wow, 268394 KM, these Hondas really do keep going strong! My Accord's pushing similar numbers. Quick tip from my experience: when they replace the key fob battery, ask them to check if the rubber buttons inside the fob are still in good condition. When they changed mine, the technician showed me that the rubber was starting to wear a bit (common after so many years), but it wasn't bad enough to need replacement yet. Just something to keep an eye on for the future. Let us know how it goes after the workshop visit! I'm pretty confident it'll be the same simple battery fix I had. These symptoms are like textbook key fob battery issues, it's funny how we always imagine the worst, right?

Thanks for all the helpful responses! Just got back from the workshop, and you guys were absolutely right, it was just the key fob battery! Cost me about the same as what you mentioned, and they did exactly what you suggested, checked the rubber buttons too. They're a bit worn but still good for now. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes, and everything's working perfectly again. The warning light's gone, and the remote locking is as good as new. Can't believe I was so worried about this! Guess that's what happens when you start imagining the worst possible scenarios with car problems! Really appreciate everyone's input, it helped me feel much more confident about what I was dealing with. Sometimes it's just nice to hear from others who've been through the same thing. Thanks again for all the help! Now I know what to look out for next time the fob starts acting up in a few years!
