Honda Crider MAF Sensor Issues Causing Multiple Problems

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Hey all! Having serious troubles with my 2019 Honda Crider (13.7K km, gasoline engine). Engine's been acting up badly, black smoke when I accelerate, constant stalling, and jerking around. Check engine light is on too. Lost a bunch of power and fuel efficiency recently. Pretty sure it's the mass airflow sensor, but got burned by a bad mechanic last time. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your experiences and trusted mechanics who actually fixed the issue properly. Thanks in advance!

I had nearly identical issues with my 2016 Honda Accord (gasoline). The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced, black smoke, stalling, power loss, and that annoying check engine light. Initially thought it was the MAF sensor too, but when my mechanic checked, he found damaged wiring in the engine harness. Mice had chewed through several important cables. The damage was causing incorrect signals to the ECU, which messed up the fuel mixture. It was a serious issue that required replacing part of the wiring harness and repairing some connections. Took about two days to fix, but the car's been running perfectly since then, no more stalling or black smoke. Would recommend getting a proper diagnostic scan first. Wiring issues can mimic sensor problems, and you don't want to replace parts unnecessarily.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. It's super helpful since our issues sound really similar. I also drive a Honda and those symptoms are exactly what I've been dealing with. Your mechanic definitely knew what he was doing by checking the wiring first, smart move! Did you remember roughly how much the harness replacement and repairs set you back? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey there! Glad I could help out! Just to update you, took my car to my mechanic last week to get everything properly checked out and fixed. The issue was definitely the damaged wiring in the harness, just like we thought. Total bill came to 95€ to fix up those chewed cables. Talk about pesky rodents! Since the repair, my Accord's been running like a dream, no more black smoke, stalling, or any of that nonsense. The mass airflow sensor is working perfectly now that it's getting the right signals. Honestly, it feels like I'm driving a different car, smooth acceleration, no jerking, and the engine light's finally off. Haven't had a single problem since the fix, and it's been about a week now. Fuel economy's back to normal too. Really glad I got it sorted before any serious damage happened. Sometimes the simplest issues can cause the biggest headaches, right? Trust me, getting that wiring sorted was definitely worth every penny. Just make sure your mechanic does a thorough check of all the connections, those little wire problems can be tricky to spot!

Thanks so much for the detailed update! You won't believe it, but I actually just got back from the mechanic today. Turned out my issue was pretty similar, though it wasn't rodents in my case. Had some corroded wiring that was causing all those problems. My repair bill was a bit higher, around 150 € since they had to replace a larger section of the harness. But honestly, it's such a relief to have it fixed properly. Took it for a test drive and wow, no more black smoke, no stalling, and the engine's purring like new! Even my fuel consumption has improved dramatically. Funny how we worry about complicated sensor issues when it's sometimes just basic wiring causing all the drama. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid another wild goose chase with parts replacement. Next time I'll definitely check the wiring first!

Let our mechanics help you!
