Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I notice the temperature rising mostly when idling, especially in slow-moving traffic. It does seem to improve a bit at higher speeds, but I'm still concerned. My last service was just 2 months ago and I'm only at 11207 KM, so this issue caught me off guard. I'll definitely get it checked out soon, don't want to risk any engine damage. The symptoms you described with your HR-V sound spot-on similar to what I'm experiencing. Do you remember how long the repair took? I need to plan around my schedule if it's going to be in the shop for a while.
Hey again! Glad to help follow up on this. Looking at what you described, yeah, those symptoms are practically identical to what I experienced with my HR-V. The temperature behavior in traffic versus highway speeds is a real telltale sign. The actual repair on my car was pretty quick, took about 3-4 hours total. The longest part was waiting for the engine to cool down so they could work on it safely. They had the replacement control unit in stock, which helped speed things up. Just make sure to call ahead and check if they have the part available, that'll save you some waiting time. Since you mentioned your car is relatively new with low mileage, definitely keep your repair invoice and documentation. While my HR-V was just out of warranty when this happened, you might still be covered depending on your warranty terms. Worth checking that out. Also, one tip from my experience, while they're working on it, have them check the coolant level and condition too. My mechanic did this as a precaution, and it's good preventive maintenance anyway. Let me know how it goes! Always curious to hear if others have the same fix work out for them.
Thanks so much for all the details! That's really helpful to know it only took 3-4 hours. I'll definitely call the workshop first about the part availability, good thinking! And thanks for the tip about checking warranty coverage, I actually just found my warranty paperwork and it looks like I might still be covered since I'm under both the time and mileage limits. I've already scheduled an appointment for next week. Will make sure to ask them about checking the coolant too while they're at it. Better safe than sorry! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about what to expect with the repair. Will update here once it's fixed to let everyone know if it was indeed the same issue. Thanks again for all the help!
Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and had a very similar issue with my 2016 Honda HR-V diesel last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same, AC blowing hot air and engine temp going up. Took it to my regular mechanic, and after running diagnostics, they found the electric fan control unit was shot. The part was failing to regulate the fan speed properly. Got it replaced and it cost me around 480€, not cheap but definitely better than risking engine damage. Car's been running perfectly since then. Could you share if you notice the issue happening more during idle or also while driving? Also, does your temperature gauge go back to normal when you're at highway speeds? This info would help confirm if we're dealing with the same problem. BTW, if it is the control unit, don't wait too long to get it checked. These things can lead to bigger problems if left unattended!
