Honda CR-V Engine Issues: IAT Sensor & Performance Problems

Jerking on acceleration

Hey everyone! My 2007 Honda CR-V is giving me headaches lately. Engine light is on and the car feels sluggish with unusual jerks during acceleration. Engine runs rough and I'm burning way more fuel than usual. I suspect the intake air temperature sensor might be acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What did your mechanic find and how was it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and actually dealt with a very similar issue on my 2009 Honda Pilot last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced. My IAT sensor was indeed faulty, causing poor performance and increased fuel consumption. Took it to my trusted mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the sensor. Total bill came to around 155 Euro, mostly labor since the part itself isn't too expensive. Car has been running smoothly ever since. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share if you've scanned for any error codes? Also, when did these symptoms first appear, and have you noticed any other changes in how the car behaves? Sometimes these symptoms can be related to other sensors or the MAF sensor, so having more details would help narrow things down better.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My CR-V just hit 72191 KM and had its latest service about 3 months ago. I haven't scanned for error codes yet, but I'll definitely get that done soon. The symptoms started about two weeks ago, and they seem to get worse during acceleration. Really helpful to know about your similar experience with the IAT sensor. Looks like I should get it checked out by a mechanic soon before it causes any more issues. Would be a relief if it's just the sensor and nothing more serious.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your CR-V. Yeah, those symptoms getting worse during acceleration definitely ring a bell, that's exactly how mine started acting up too. Just wanted to mention that after I got my IAT sensor replaced on my Pilot, I actually discovered that regular cleaning of the sensor area could've probably prevented the issue. Been doing that during my routine maintenance checks now, and it's been working great for the past year. Since your CR-V's mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when I had the problem (mine was around 75000 KM), it makes sense that you might be facing the same issue. But definitely get those error codes read first, that's what helped my mechanic pinpoint the problem quickly. Quick tip though, while you're waiting to get it checked, try to avoid heavy acceleration as that seemed to make things worse in my case. Better safe than sorry, right? Let us know what you find out after the diagnostic. Always curious to hear if others' experiences match up with mine!

Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! Really appreciate you mentioning about the regular sensor cleaning, that's definitely something I'll keep in mind for future maintenance. I've already booked an appointment with my mechanic for tomorrow morning and will make sure they do a full diagnostic scan. You're right about taking it easy on the acceleration, I've been driving more gently since yesterday and it does seem to help a bit with the jerking. It's actually quite reassuring to hear that your Pilot had almost the same mileage when this happened. Makes me feel better knowing it's probably just normal wear and tear. I'll definitely update the thread once I get the diagnosis. Thanks again for all your help, this kind of firsthand experience is exactly what I was hoping to find when I posted!
