Honda Accord Warning Light Mystery: DPF or AdBlue Issue?

Check engine light on

DPF regeneration failure

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey all! Need some advice about my 2014 Honda Accord Diesel. Getting multiple warning lights, check engine, DPF, and a warning in the speedometer cluster. My gut tells me it might be an empty Ad Blue tank issue. I've had some sketchy experiences with mechanics lately, so I'm trying to figure out if anyone's dealt with something similar? Car's at 289,263 km and I'd love to hear your experiences and recommendations before taking it in. Has anyone faced these symptoms, and if so, what was the actual problem? Thanks!

Hey there! I've got a 2017 Honda CR-V diesel and faced similar warnings last year. It was indeed an Ad-Blue issue, but not just a low level, turned out the Ad-Blue pump was failing. The warning lights you mentioned match exactly what I experienced. Took it to the garage and they found that some crystals had formed in the system due to old Ad-Blue fluid sitting too long. They had to clean the system, replace the pump, and do a full refill. It wasn't a major mechanical issue, but it needed proper attention because these systems are designed to eventually limit engine performance if not fixed. They also did a DPF regeneration while it was there, just to be safe. Car's been running smoothly since then, no warning lights. My advice would be to get it checked soon, these warnings shouldn't be ignored as they can lead to reduced engine performance or even a limp mode situation. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Did you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise. Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Been a bit nervous about garages lately, but your experience makes me feel a bit better about getting it sorted.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my repair costs since you asked. In my case, it was actually much simpler (and cheaper!) than my initial repair. Turned out I just needed the Ad Blue tank filled up, cost me 65€ and all those warning lights disappeared like magic. What a relief compared to what I went through last time! Everything's been running perfectly smooth since then, no warning lights, no issues at all. You know how these modern diesels can be drama queens with their warning lights, but once you sort out what they're actually complaining about, it's often not as bad as it seems. My recommendation? Just get it checked out soon. Modern diesels don't mess around when it comes to Ad Blue, they'll eventually go into limp mode if you ignore it too long. Better to spend a bit now than deal with bigger headaches later, right? Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted! Always good to share experiences with these things.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and took my car to the mechanic today. You won't believe it, but it was actually something totally different! The mechanic found that my car had a faulty sensor in the exhaust system, plus some clogged filters. Cost me a bit more than just an Ad Blue refill, but at least it's sorted now. The funny part was watching the mechanic's face when he realized all those warning lights were triggered by one misbehaving sensor. He actually showed me the old one, looked pretty crusty! Got everything cleaned up, new sensor installed, and they did a system reset. All those scary warning lights are finally gone. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped push me to get it checked out before it turned into something worse. Car's purring like a kitten now, and I've learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these warning lights pop up. Sometimes you just have to trust the experts and get it done!

Let our mechanics help you!
