Help: DPF regeneration and dark smoke in Seat Ibiza Diesel

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2019 Seat Leon some time ago. Dark smoke, reduced power output and a constantly illuminated engine light were also the main problems for me. In my case, the diesel particulate filter was overloaded and the DPF regeneration wasn't working properly, just like yours is now. This is really nothing too serious and should actually be quite easy to fix. In my case, the diesel particulate filter had to be cleaned and the on-board computer reset to get the filter and regeneration working properly again. Don't panic, the garage should be able to do this in a few hours. Save yourself the money for a new filter while yours can still be cleaned and reused. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and the encouraging words! One more question though, if you remember, approximately how much did it cost you to have the diesel particulate filter cleaned and the on-board computer reset? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, I'm glad to hear that I was able to ease your worries a little! As the DPF was the internally defective one, the cost of the repair was 1550€, but I think that can vary a bit depending on the garage. Good luck and hopefully your Ibiza will soon be fit again!

Hi guys, I fully agree with the previous statements. The symptoms you described definitely sound like a heavy load on the diesel particulate filter. I experienced the same thing with my VW Golf Diesel, built in 2015, with around 80000 km mileage. In my case, the dark smoke and the engine light were also the first signs. With the mileage of your car, short distances and urban driving could really lead to a heavy load on the filter. Therefore, your problem could well be related to this. Cleaning the filter solved the problem for me. It wasn't cheap, but it was definitely worth it - since then the car has been running like clockwork again. I would therefore also advise you to have the filter cleaned first before you think about buying a new one.

Hello everyone, I made an appointment at my regular workshop straight away. They were already aware of the problem and were able to clean the diesel particulate filter. You were right, it wasn't as expensive as I had feared. Fortunately, I was able to save on a new filter and only paid €700. Since the repair, the car has been running like before. Thanks again to everyone who has contributed with helpful recommendations. See you all next time and have a good trip!
