Heating/cooling problems and mirror de-icing in Renault Talisman model year 2015 - Possible water valve defect?

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Mirror doesn't defrost

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2015 Renault Talisman, petrol engine. The heating/cooling barely works and the mirror just doesn't de-ice properly. Could this be due to a defective water valve in the cooling circuit? Have you ever experienced something like this or can you give me tips on what could be the cause? How have your garages solved the problem and what experiences have you had? I am grateful for any advice.

I had a similar problem with my 2013 Renault Mégane diesel a few years ago. I have such mediocre car knowledge, but such issues are definitely above my level of experience. In my case, the cable connection to the water valve was defective due to corrosion. I had it checked at the local mechanic because I wasn't sure. The mechanic then repaired it for me. I think I paid about 155 euros at the time. What exactly is the mileage of your car and have you noticed if the problem gets worse in certain conditions (e.g. cold or rain)? More details could help to narrow down the problem.

Hey, thanks for the answer! My Talisman has done 19814 kilometers so far and the last service was last week. I've noticed that it's worse in damp weather, i.e. in the rain or when it's cold and damp. Then the mirror defrosts very slowly and the heater simply doesn't heat properly. I think I'll bring this up at the next workshop visit. Tell me, did the mechanic do the repair right away or did you have to do it several times?

Well, that's a relatively low mileage, so there shouldn't be that much damage yet. Fortunately, the mechanic solved the problem for me the first time. He also told me that the water valve and the cable connection are one of the most common causes of such problems, even though your car hasn't done that many kilometers yet. Maybe he's lucky and it's just a minor issue. Moisture in the electrical connectors can also be a problem in damp weather, so that could be a possibility. Be sure to mention this at your next workshop visit! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's solved quickly and cheaply.

Hey, cool, thanks for the helpful info and keeping your fingers crossed! Yes, that makes sense with the water valve and the electrical plugs. Good to know that your mechanic was able to solve the problem right away. I really hope it's nothing major, but I also think the moisture is somehow involved. I'm curious to see what they say at the workshop. I'll definitely report back and thanks again for the quick reply!
