Heated Windows Fail: GrandlandX Owners Seek Fix

Heated windows without function

|

Fault stored

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2018 Vauxhall GrandlandX (petrol). The heated windows stopped working completely and throwing a fault code. Pretty sure it's related to the windscreen heating system. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the workshop did to fix it. Any tips or insights would be super helpful. Thanks!

I have some experience working on cars. Had a similar issue with my 2020 Vauxhall Crossland (also dealt with another Vauxhall Mokka before). Turned out my battery was weak and couldn't provide enough power for the heating elements. Took it to my regular workshop, they tested the battery and found it was only operating at about 40% capacity. Had to replace it completely, cost me around 290€ including labor. Before you jump to conclusions though, what's the exact fault code you're getting? Also, does this happen only with the heated windows, or are you noticing other electrical issues too (like slow starter motor, dim lights)? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same battery problem I had.

Thanks for your input! My windows are giving me the same headache, but I'm not seeing any other electrical problems. Everything else runs smoothly, no dim lights or starting issues. The fault code I'm getting is P0531, and it's been consistently showing up for the past week. Got my last service just 3 months ago at 18775 km, and it was working perfectly fine then. Come to think of it, the issue started right after that really cold snap we had. Might be worth checking the battery though, even if it's just to rule it out.

Hey again! Yeah, that P0531 code is different from what I dealt with, but I get why you mentioned the cold weather, that's actually when I first noticed my battery issues. But since you're not having any other electrical problems, I'm thinking this might be something else. After what happened with my Crossland, I've become pretty observant about these things. Just last week, my current Vauxhall's heated windows started acting up too, but this time it wasn't the battery. Turned out there was a faulty connection in the heating element circuit, totally different issue from my previous battery problem. Since you mentioned it started after that cold snap and given that everything else is working fine, I'd actually lean towards checking the heating element connections first. When I took mine in (this second time), the mechanic found a loose connection that was causing intermittent issues. Cost me way less than the battery replacement I had before, around €120 for diagnostics and repair. Maybe get those connections checked out before jumping to battery replacement? Just my two cents based on dealing with both scenarios. Let me know what you find out, I'm curious if it's similar to what I experienced this time around!

Thanks so much for sharing both your experiences! That's really helpful to know about the connection issue, definitely sounds more like what I might be dealing with. Makes sense since everything else is working fine. I'll book it in at my local garage next week and have them check the connections first before exploring other options. Really glad you mentioned that, might save me from unnecessarily replacing the battery! Will keep you posted on what they find. Thanks again for taking the time to share your insights!
