Heat Issues with '19 Mazda CX8: Seeking Advice for Cooling Air Flap System Repair

Overheating

Hey everyone, I got a '19 Mazda CX8 (gasoline, about 250,853 KM on the odometer) that's been running hotter than a jalapeno in the desert. I'm guessing it's something to do with the cooling air flap system screwing up. Anyone else had this kind of issue? How was your experience with the fix at the garage? My last mechanic visit was a nightmare, so looking for any pointers to avoid another bad time. Thanks a ton!

Hey there, just wanted to chip in my 2 cents. I recently had a similar issue with my '16 Mazda CX5. It turned out that the sticky situation was caused by the worn-out radiator shutter wiring harness concealed behind the bumper. And yep, you guessed it right, it’s indeed related to the air cooling flap system malfunctioning. Honestly, this was quite a significant problem but nothing a good garage can't handle. It did take them a while to pinpoint the issue though. They had to really get into the front end to spot the fault in the wiring harness. Once they found out, they replaced the entire wiring harness and boy, my ride has been as cool as a cucumber since then. It might take a bit of time, but if they know what to look for, it should be straightforward enough. Just make sure you emphasize the radiator shutter wiring harness issue when you bring your Mazda in, to avoid them going on a wild goose chase around the engine bay. Hope this helps, and fingers crossed your garage visit goes smoothly. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Sure sounds like a tricky situation, but I'm glad your CX5 is chilling now. You've given me some direction. Since you've dealt with this, do you recall approximately how much you had to shell out for that harness replacement job? Also, since that fix, has anything else popped up related to it or has it been smooth sailing? Thanks again for your help!

Hi again! Yes, I remember the cost vividly. Had to part ways with 270.00 € for them to get up and cozy with the bumper and replace the worn-out wiring harness for the radiator shutter. A bit hefty, but totally worth it for the peace of mind. And hey, since that little rendezvous with the mechanic, my Mazda's been running as smooth as silk. The malfunction I was having with the cooling air flap system? Gone, just like that! So, it’s been smooth sailing since the fix with no bumps on the road. For now anyway, fingers crossed it stays that way! Hope this eases your worry a tad. Good luck with your garage visit!

Thanks heaps for the details! You're right, 270.00 € is a bit sharp, but peace of mind is worth every penny. The last thing anyone wants is a fried engine in the middle of nowhere. It's good to hear your Mazda's been smooth rolling since the repair. Hope my garage visit turns out just as successful. I appreciate your help and fingers crossed my car stays cool. Take care, and safe driving! Cheers!
