Handbrake on a VW Golf built in 2016 - looking for tips and experience

Electical handbrake is not working

Hey sports fans, I have a problem with my VW Golf (built in 2016, petrol engine). The electric handbrake no longer works properly. I suspect that it may be a malfunction of the electric handbrake. Have any of you had similar experiences and could perhaps give me some tips on how to isolate and solve the problem? What did your garage do to fix the problem and what was your experience? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my VW Passat (model year 2018, diesel). The electric handbrake kept spinning from time to time. I would describe my car experience as somewhat experienced. So I took my car to the garage and they did the fault readout. The result was that the fuse was faulty. The repair cost me 52 euros. Since then it has been working perfectly again. Can you perhaps give me some more information? For example, the exact name of your model or when exactly the problem occurred? Maybe then I can help you even better.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My car is a Golf TSI and the problem with the handbrake occurred recently. It already has 73480 km on the speedometer and the last service was last month. Maybe it's because the fuse needs replacing, as you said. I'll take the car to the nearest garage and have it checked out. Thanks for your advice, man!

Hello again! Glad you're going to the garage! It definitely sounds like it could be the same fuse as in my Passat! Of course, this is always just a guess, individual differences between vehicles can always exist. Even though my Passat is a bit newer, the basic functions should be pretty similar. So if it's the fuse, you should be looking at around 50-60 euros. However, I would still recommend that you have the garage check the handbrake unit as well. It could also be that something is jammed or the mechanism itself has a problem. You can only hope that it's nothing too major. If you have any further questions, just get in touch here, I'll be happy to help! Hope I was able to help you out this time too, man. Good luck with your Golf, hopefully you'll get the problem sorted quickly!

Hello, thank you for the tips and the detailed answer! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. I will go to the garage and follow your recommendation to have the fuse and handbrake unit checked. I just hope it's nothing serious and won't be too expensive. And yes, your advice has definitely helped me! You've made me think about it a bit and not just think about the symptoms, but the possible causes. If I have any news or further questions, I'll definitely check back here. Until then, thanks so much for your help man!
