GrandlandX Hybrid Overheating: Coolant Pump Alert

Overheating

|

Check engine light on

Hi everyone, my 2020 Vauxhall GrandlandX Hybrid (137959 km) has been giving me trouble lately. The engine's been running hot and the check engine light won't go away. I suspect it might be the coolant pump, especially after a not-so-great experience at my last mechanic visit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their GrandlandX? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around hybrids. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I actually had a similar issue with my 2022 Vauxhall Crossland Hybrid last month. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, engine overheating and persistent check engine light. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the electric coolant pump, not the pump itself. When I took it to my garage, they diagnosed it through their diagnostic system and found that the control unit wasn't getting proper signals from the pump due to a damaged cable. The mechanic told me this is actually a known issue in some Vauxhall hybrids. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness and recalibrating the pump control unit. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because continued overheating could have damaged the hybrid system. I wouldn't recommend driving it much until you get it checked out. If you're in need of a mechanic, make sure they're certified for hybrid vehicles, not all shops are equipped to handle hybrid-specific issues. After the repair, my car's been running perfectly fine with normal temperature readings. Hope this helps with your situation.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what I went through. I had my cable replaced at a certified Vauxhall dealer and it sorted out the overheating issue. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks? Mine's been fine for the most part, but I've been keeping an extra eye on the temperature gauge just in case.

Hey again! Glad to hear you got it sorted out at the dealer! Yeah, I remember exactly what I paid, it was 220 Euro to fix that pesky cable connecting to the pump and control unit. The "Coolant pump function limited" warning that was driving me nuts is completely gone now. Since the repair, my Crossland's been running like a dream, no more overheating, no warning lights, nothing! I totally get why you're keeping an eye on that temp gauge though, I did the same thing for the first few weeks after the fix. But honestly, you probably don't need to worry. Once they fix that cable properly, it usually stays fixed. It's actually quite common with these Vauxhall hybrids, from what my mechanic told me. Just one of those design quirks, I guess. But hey, at least it's a relatively straightforward fix when you know what you're looking for! Let me know if you notice anything else unusual, but I reckon you're all set now. These hybrids are pretty solid once you sort out their little peculiarities!

Thanks for the detailed info! You're right, it cost me about the same, around 245 Euro at the dealer. I went to Mike's Auto Service, and they really knew their stuff with hybrids. The whole experience was actually better than I expected. The mechanic showed me exactly what was wrong, that damaged cable was definitely the culprit. They fixed it in about three hours, and I've had no problems since. The temperature's staying steady now, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. It's been two weeks since the repair, and I think I can finally stop obsessing over the temperature gauge! The car's running smoothly, and the hybrid system's working perfectly. Honestly, it's such a relief to have this sorted. Really appreciate everyone's help and advice on this. Sometimes it just takes finding the right mechanic who knows these hybrid systems well. Seems like these Vauxhall hybrids are pretty reliable once you get past these small issues. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your experience, it definitely helped me feel better about the whole situation!
