GrandlandX Hybrid Coolant Loss: Expert Help Needed

Coolant level low

|

Overheating

Hi everyone, my 2022 Vauxhall GrandlandX Hybrid (157k km) keeps overheating and losing coolant. I suspect it might be the radiator shutter, but after a previous disappointing experience with my mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their GrandlandX? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who actually know their way around hybrids. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Crossland X Hybrid last summer. The symptoms started just like yours, overheating and coolant loss. Took it to my trusted mechanic, and it turned out the wiring harness to the coolant temperature sensor was corroded and giving false readings. This was causing the cooling system to malfunction. It was actually a serious issue because the faulty readings meant the engine wasn't being cooled properly, which could've led to engine damage if left unchecked. The repair involved replacing the entire wiring harness and sensor assembly. Had to leave my car at the garage for two days while they sorted it out. The thing with hybrids is you really need someone who knows these systems well. I'd recommend finding a mechanic who specializes in hybrid vehicles, preferably one who's certified to work on Vauxhall hybrids. The cooling system in these cars is more complex than in conventional engines, so proper diagnosis is crucial. Hope this helps with your search!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful info about the wiring harness issue. I'm seeing similar symptoms, so this could definitely be it. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the cooling system?

Hey again! Happy to help update you on my Crossland X situation. After getting it fixed, everything's been running like a dream, no more overheating or coolant issues whatsoever. The whole repair set me back 155 Euro, which honestly wasn't as bad as I initially feared. The best part is that they also discovered and fixed the functional limitation with the radiator shutter while they were in there, it was all related to that corroded wiring harness to the sensor. I'm actually really glad I went ahead with the repair when I did. These hybrid cooling systems are pretty sophisticated, and letting problems drag on can lead to bigger headaches down the road. My mechanic did a solid job, took care of the wiring harness replacement and made sure everything was properly sealed and tested before giving the car back. If you're seeing similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out. Sounds like we had nearly identical issues, and it's better to sort it sooner rather than later. Let me know if you need any other details about the repair!

Thanks everyone! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my GrandlandX. Finally took it to a hybrid-certified mechanic yesterday, and wow, what a difference proper expertise makes! Turned out it wasn't just the radiator shutter, they found similar wiring issues to what you described, plus a small leak in the coolant system. Left my car there for the day, and they sorted everything out. Bill came to about 180 Euro, which wasn't too bad considering they fixed both problems. Drove it home today, and it's running perfectly, no more overheating warnings or coolant issues. The engine temperature's staying steady, just like it should. Really appreciate everyone's advice here, especially about finding a specialist. You were right about not waiting too long, probably saved myself from bigger problems down the road. Feels good to have this sorted finally! Guess I've found my new go-to mechanic too. Thanks again for all the help!
