Grandland X: ABS/DSC Warning Light Mystery Needs Solving

Fault stored

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2020 Vauxhall GrandlandX Hybrid. The ABS warning light keeps coming on, and both ABS and DSC systems aren't functioning. There's also a warning light in the speedometer, and the system's storing a fault. I suspect it might be related to a faulty speed signal, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their GrandlandX? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the workshop did to fix it. What was the actual cause in your case? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and had a similar issue with my 2018 Vauxhall Crossland X Hybrid last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, ABS light, DSC not working, and warning lights all over. Took it to my trusted workshop, and it turned out to be a defective ABS control unit. Had to shell out about 1000€ for the replacement and programming, but it fixed the problem completely. No issues since then. Before I share more specific details about my repair experience, could you tell me how many miles you've got on your GrandlandX and whether you've noticed any other symptoms? Also, has the car been in any accidents or had previous ABS repairs?

Hi! Thanks for your reply. My GrandlandX has 247,773 KM on the clock and just had its service last month. Haven't had any accidents or previous ABS repairs, though. The issue just started popping up out of nowhere. What you're describing sounds pretty similar to what I'm experiencing. Did you notice any unusual noises or vibrations before your ABS unit failed? A grand is quite a hit to the wallet, but if it sorts the problem, it might be worth it. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!

Hey again! Yeah, actually now that you mention it, I did notice some subtle signs before my ABS unit completely gave up. There was this faint clicking noise coming from the front right wheel area when driving at low speeds, especially during parking maneuvers. Initially, I thought it was just normal brake noise, but it turned out to be an early warning sign. Your mileage (247,773 KM) is actually pretty close to what mine was when the issue occurred, I was around 235,000 KM. From my experience and what my mechanic told me, this is a somewhat common failure point for these units in our Vauxhalls. Look, I know 1000€ sounds steep (believe me, I wasn't thrilled either!), but it's definitely worth getting it sorted properly. I tried to save money initially by having a local garage look at it, but they just couldn't diagnose it correctly. Ended up at the Vauxhall dealer where they spotted the faulty unit right away. One tip though, make sure they check the wheel speed sensors while they're at it. My mechanic did this as a precaution, and it turned out one of mine was starting to go as well. Got it replaced at the same time, which probably saved me from another potential headache down the road. Let me know what you decide to do, I'm curious to hear if it's the same issue as mine!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful, especially about the clicking noise, now that you mention it, I have been hearing something similar when parking. I guess I've been ignoring it, thinking it was nothing serious. Your experience has convinced me to bite the bullet and take it to the Vauxhall dealer. Better to get it done properly the first time than waste money on unsuccessful fixes elsewhere. I'll definitely ask them to check the wheel speed sensors too, that's a great tip! I'll let you know how it goes and what they find. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. It's definitely made me feel more confident about what I'm dealing with. Thanks again!

Let our mechanics help you!
