Grandland X Hybrid: Critical Misfire & Power Loss Mystery

Hey all, having trouble with my 2022 Grandland X Hybrid that's been acting up lately. The engine is misfiring badly with power loss, constant jerking during acceleration, and rough idling. CEL is on and the engine occasionally cuts out completely. Fuel consumption has gone through the roof too. I suspect it might be related to the crankcase ventilation system. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and got it fixed? Specifically interested in workshop diagnoses and repair solutions. What was the actual problem in your case?

Hi there! I had some experience with a similar issue on my 2020 Vauxhall Crossland (also had a chance to own an Astra). I'd say I have some experience with cars, enough to understand the basics but I still rely on professionals for repairs. Had almost identical symptoms, misfiring, jerky acceleration, and terrible fuel economy. Turned out to be a faulty crankcase ventilation system. Took it to my trusted workshop, and they found oil contamination in the intake manifold due to the defective PCV system. Cost me about 360€ to get it sorted, including parts and labor. Running smooth as silk since then. What's your mileage? And have you noticed any oil consumption issues? This could help confirm if we're dealing with the same problem. Let me know these details, and I might be able to share more specific insights.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is currently at 220916 KM, with my latest service just done two months ago. Interesting that you mention oil consumption, I haven't noticed any significant issues there, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it now. Did you get any specific error codes when your issue occurred? I'm thinking of taking it to my local Vauxhall dealer, but would love to go in with some idea of what I'm dealing with, especially since it's still pretty new.

Hey again! Yes, I remember having that issue with my Crossland. Since you mentioned your mileage and service history, I can share a bit more detail about my experience. When my problem occurred, I did get error codes, mainly P0171 (System Too Lean) and P0300 (Unusual/Multiple Cylinder Misfire). The dealer should definitely be able to diagnose these. In my case, after that first repair I mentioned, everything ran perfectly for about 40,000 km before I noticed any minor issues again. It's worth noting that since your Grandland X is newer and a hybrid, the system might be a bit different from my Crossland, but the basic principle remains the same. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous reply, before taking it to the workshop, I noticed a slight whistling sound under acceleration. Did you experience anything like that? Also, if you're planning to go to the dealer, ask them to check the intake manifold for oil residue, that was the smoking gun in my case. Quick tip: keep all the documentation from this repair, even if it seems minor. I learned that the hard way when I needed to reference the work done later on. Good luck with the dealer visit! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed a faint whistling sound during acceleration, I hadn't connected the dots until you brought it up. The error codes you mentioned are really helpful; I'll definitely mention those to the dealer when I take it in next week. I've already booked an appointment and will make sure to ask them specifically about checking the intake manifold for oil residue. Really appreciate the tip about keeping the documentation too, I'll start a proper file for all repair records going forward. It's been super helpful hearing from someone who's dealt with similar issues. I'll update the thread once I get it checked out at the dealer. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!
