Golf Hybrid Stalling: Bad Coil Pack Suspected

Thanks for sharing this! Having experienced faulty coil packs myself, I can confirm similar ignition system problems. My check engine light was also constantly flashing while facing those misfires and rough running. After replacing the problematic coil pack and spark plugs, my Golf has been running perfectly fine for months now. Just wondering, do you remember what was the total repair cost in your case? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or did you notice any other issues popping up?

Since getting the vehicle properly diagnosed, the repair has been completely successful. The ignition coil problems were resolved by fixing a loose cable connection at the coil pack, which cost 95€ for parts and labor. The vehicle diagnostics revealed it was just that single faulty connection causing all the engine hesitation and misfires. The engine has been running smoothly for over 8 months now with no check engine light or any signs of engine stalling. Regular driving confirms the issue is fully resolved, no more jerky acceleration or rough idling. The repair shop did a thorough job testing all ignition components to ensure there weren't any other underlying problems. Getting that second opinion really paid off, as the first mechanic wanted to replace multiple coil packs unnecessarily. Sometimes the simplest fix is the right one when you have a proper diagnosis.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I wanted to share how this story ended. After reading about similar coil failure experiences here, I took my Golf to a different certified shop specializing in VW repairs. The new mechanic performed a complete vehicle diagnostics and found two failing ignition coils causing the misfires and engine stalling. They also discovered some moisture damage in the wiring harness that needed fixing. Total repair cost came to 280€ including parts and labor. The difference in service quality was night and day compared to my previous mechanic. They showed me the damaged parts, explained everything clearly, and even let me watch part of the repair. My Golf now runs perfectly, no more check engine light, rough running, or hesitation during acceleration. Really glad I got that second opinion instead of continuing with the sketchy first mechanic who wanted to replace the entire coil pack system unnecessarily. Sometimes you need to trust your gut when something feels off with car repairs.

Had similar issues with my 2018 VW Passat GTE hybrid. The symptoms match exactly what you describe, engine hesitation, misfires, and stalling. After vehicle diagnostics, it turned out to be a faulty coil pack with damaged wiring harness connectors. The coil pack failure was causing unusual engine misfires, particularly noticeable during acceleration. The check engine light came on due to the cylinder misfire detection system. This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention, as continued driving can damage the catalytic converter. The repair involved replacing two coil packs and fixing corroded wiring connections. The original issue started with just one cylinder misfire, but spread to others due to moisture getting into the connection points. A proper diagnosis revealed carbon tracking on the old coil pack which confirmed the failure. Would strongly recommend getting a second opinion from another certified shop specializing in VW hybrids. These symptoms wont resolve themselves and will likely worsen if left unchecked. The vehicle diagnostics should include checking all coil packs and their connections, plus scanning for specific misfire codes.
