Hey there, Whoa, your experience with the S60 sounds eerily similar to what's happening with my V40. It's kinda comforting and worrisome at the same time. So you reckon it's a done fate for those worn-out glow plugs, huh? Considering the mileage, I ain't too shocked, but I am curious about a couple things... if you don't mind me asking, do you recall how much that entire repair set you back? And since you gave her the fix, has any other issues popped up? Appreciate any info you could share. Cheers.

Hey, Spot on, it sure does sound like your glow plugs are singing their final swansong. Considering the mileage, it's hardly a surprise but hey, at least it's something that can be fixed, right? In terms of costs... Well, when I rolled my S60 in, I paid about 560€ for the glow plug replacement. That's for parts and labor. My mechanic was thorough, he made sure to fix the problem at its root, rather than just patching up the symptoms. Fixed it up real good, and I must say, it was worth every penny. And since the fix, it's like night and day with my old girl. No more rough idling, no check engine light playing peekaboo, and cold start ups are no longer teeth-grinding experiences. The black smoke issue? Poof, all cleared up and she runs like a dream. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Hey, Aha! The final swansong it is then! I reckon I had this feeling deep down but needed another fellow Volvo owner to either give me hope or confirm my fears, and you did the latter, ha! Seems like my next stop is definitely the mechanic's workshop. 560€... alright, doesn't seem too steep considering all your troubles disappeared and your S60's running like the wind again. No more check engine alarm tantrums, cold start nightmare, and black smoke ghosts? Sounds all too good. Also, thanks for emphasising on fixing the root problem and not just slapping a band-aid, gonna keep this in mind. I do feel better; kind of enlightening having chatted with you. Here's hoping my encounter with the mechanic turns out as smooth and successful as yours. I'll get on it right away. Take care! Cheers.

Hey, Yep, definitely heard those symptoms before. I've got a Volvo S60 D3 (2010) with quite the mileage on it as well. Had similar issues last year with that persistent check engine light and the cold start troubles you're having. Turned out to be the glow plugs wearing out. It wasn't a surprise considering the miles I've put on the old girl. My mechanic also said that wear and tear on these components is expected over time. The bad news is, it did turn out to be a critical issue, but the good news is it was fixable. They had to replace the glow plugs and carry out a comprehensive check of the DPF system. The DPF regeneration was handled and the glow plug system had to be reset after the replacements. My car's been running smoother since the repair. So yeah, it wasn't a quick pit stop, but glad they got the job done. It pretty much smoothed out the idling issues and the black smoke. So, I'd recommend getting your babe to a trusted mechanic to have it looked at. Cheers.
