Giulietta Speedometer & Cruise Control Electronic Failure

My 2018 Giulietta diesel (78k km) is showing multiple issues with the electronics. The speedometer displays an error message and the cruise control has become non-functional. A diagnostic scan revealed stored error codes. After a recent disappointing experience with my mechanic, I am hesitant to return there. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their car electronics, particularly the cruise control system? What was the root cause and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on what to check first or potential fixes before visiting a mechanic.

I experienced similar electronic malfunctions with my 2015 Alfa Romeo 159 diesel. The symptoms started with an intermittent speedometer error and cruise control malfunction, followed by multiple stored error codes. The root cause turned out to be a faulty actuator connection in the throttle body system. The main issue was corrosion in the wiring harness connecting to the cruise control module, which caused inconsistent signals to the fuse box and related components. A thorough diagnostic revealed that moisture had penetrated the wiring protective sleeve, leading to degraded connections. The fix required: Cleaning the corroded connectors, Replacing damaged wiring sections, Installing a new throttle body actuator, Updating the electronic control module This was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise with car electronics. The work took 2 full days due to the complex nature of modern vehicle electronic systems. Before visiting a mechanic, check for visible damage to wiring near the throttle body and ensure all fuses related to the cruise control system are intact. However, given the nature of electronic malfunctions, professional diagnosis is likely necessary.

Thanks for sharing your experience! This actually matches what happened with my Giulietta last winter. The steering wheel controls and cruise control started acting up out of nowhere, with the same symptoms you described. Turned out there was a faulty system connection in the electronic module. What caught my attention is that your mechanic replaced the throttle body actuator. The diagnostics on my car pointed to a similar issue, and the repair solved the problem completely. Quick question, do you remember the total repair cost for your case? Also, has everything worked properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electronic glitches?

Great to hear back from you! Since my last reply, I can confirm that the repair has been completely successful. The cruise control system now works flawlessly, and there have been no electronic glitches whatsoever. The diagnostics were spot-on in identifying the root cause. In my case, the total repair ended up being much simpler and cheaper than initially expected, just 95 Euro to fix a faulty cable connection. No need for the full throttle body actuator replacement I mentioned before. The mechanic found that the connection was loose and slightly corroded, causing the car electronics to malfunction. The repair took less than an hour once they identified the exact issue. It is quite common for these electronic problems to stem from simple connection issues rather than complete component failure. I am glad I went back to get it properly checked, as the non-functional cruise control was becoming quite frustrating on longer drives. Have you noticed any improvement in other electronic systems since your repair? Sometimes fixing these connection issues can resolve multiple problems simultaneously.

Thank you all for the helpful insights. After reading about similar issues, I finally took my Giulietta to a different mechanic specializing in car electronics. The diagnostics revealed exactly what was suspected, a connection problem affecting multiple electronic systems. The mechanic found moisture damage causing corrosion in the wiring near the throttle body. They cleaned the connections, replaced some damaged wires, and recalibrated the system. The repair took about 3 hours and cost 180 Euro total. The steering wheel controls and cruise control now work perfectly. The speedometer error message is gone, and no more stored malfunction codes appear during scans. Much better outcome than expected, especially after my previous disappointing repair attempts. Been driving for two weeks now without any electronic glitches. Really glad I got a second opinion from a specialist who properly diagnosed the faulty system rather than just clearing the error codes like the previous shop did.
