Giulia Parking Assist Failure: Sensors vs Control Module

Thanks for sharing that experience. After 114791 KM on my Giulia, this is actually the first major issue with any of the electronic systems. Following up on your questions: The parking assist completely died without warning while parking at night. The rearview camera and proximity sensors stopped simultaneously. The error message appears every time I start the car, regardless of weather. No beeping sounds at all from any parking sensors. I checked the control module connection points for obvious damage but everything looks clean. The faulty wiring theory makes sense though, given how abruptly everything failed. Will have the workshop do a proper diagnostic check of the entire system. Thanks for the repair cost reference, helps set expectations for what I might be looking at.

Based on those symptoms, especially the sudden failure of both the parking sensors and camera, it definitely points to a wiring or control module issue similar to what I experienced. The consistent error message across all conditions is particularly telling. In my case, while the connectors looked clean on visual inspection, the workshop found micro-fractures in the wiring harness near the control module that were causing intermittent shorts. The proximity sensors and camera sharing the same circuit path explained the simultaneous failure. The faulty wiring was only detectable through proper diagnostic testing. My radar sensors were actually fine, but the broken signal path made them appear defective. Given your higher mileage, I would not be surprised if you are dealing with similar wiring degradation. One tip from my repair experience: have them check the control module ground connection as well. Poor grounding can cause system-wide failures that mimic bad sensors. The total diagnostic and repair time was about 2 hours, though costs may vary if they need to replace more components than just wiring.

Thanks for that detailed feedback on similar wiring issues. Your experience has been really helpful in narrowing down what to check first. The matching symptoms, especially the simultaneous failure of both parking sensors and camera, make me more confident it could be wiring related rather than sensor failure. The workshop appointment is scheduled for next week. Will have them specifically check the wiring harness, control module ground connection, and run full diagnostics before replacing any ultrasonic sensors or other components. The micro-fractures you mentioned make a lot of sense given the age and mileage of my car. If the repair ends up being similar to your case with mainly wiring issues, the cost should be manageable. Will update once I know exactly what was causing the parking assist system to fail. Thanks again for helping point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this.

As someone with some experience working on these systems, I had a very similar issue with my 2016 Giulietta last year. The ultrasonic sensors and parking assist system completely failed, showing the same error message symptoms. After taking it to the workshop, they diagnosed it as a damaged wiring connection between the control module and the rear parking sensors. The constant exposure to weather and road debris had caused corrosion in one of the main connector plugs. This affected both the rearview camera feed and the obstacle detection system. The fix was relatively straightforward, they cleaned the corroded connector and replaced the damaged wiring section. Total cost was 95 Euro including diagnostic time. The blind spot sensors started working immediately after the repair, and the parking assist system has been flawless since then. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Whether the issue started suddenly or developed gradually, If you notice any correlation with weather conditions, Whether the error appears consistently or intermittently, If you can still hear the beeping sound from any of the parking sensors These details would help determine if your Giulia is experiencing the same connector issue or if it might be something else.
