Gienia ABS Warning: Transmission Connection Revealed

ABS/DSC system is not working

Help, ABS/DSC malfunction with possible transmission issues Hi all! My 2018 Honda Gienia (7104 km, gasoline) has been giving me headaches lately. The ABS and DSC warning lights came on, and I suspect it might be related to transmission fluid issues. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on what to check first and whether I'm on the right track with the transmission fluid theory. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had similar warning lights pop up on my 2015 Honda City last month. From my experience at the garage, the issue wasn't actually transmission-related, it turned out to be a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor that was triggering both warning lights. The mechanic first checked the sensor connections and found corrosion on one of them. They cleaned the sensors, but the problem persisted. Eventually, they had to replace the front right ABS sensor, and that fixed both the ABS and DSC warnings. While worn gear oil can cause issues, ABS/DSC warnings are typically more related to the sensors, wiring, or the ABS module itself. It wasn't a major repair in my case, but ignoring these warnings isn't recommended as they affect your vehicle's safety systems. I'd suggest getting the ABS codes scanned first, that should point you in the right direction before assuming it's transmission-related. Good luck with the repair!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds pretty similar to what I went through. I was also dealing with those pesky ABS sensor issues on my Gienia about 6 months ago. Just curious, would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Thanks for asking about the follow-up! Actually, I've got some good news, after my last post, I took my City to a mechanic and it turned out my initial guess about the sensor wasn't quite right. The real culprit was worn transmission fluid, just like you originally suspected! Got it sorted out with a transmission fluid change, which set me back 365€, not cheap, but definitely worth it. Since the repair, my car's been running like a dream, no more warning lights, smooth gear changes, and everything's working perfectly. Those ABS and DSC lights haven't flashed once since the fix. Funny how sometimes our first diagnosis isn't always spot on, right? Just goes to show it's worth getting a proper check-up. Looking back, I probably should've mentioned that transmission fluid needs regular maintenance, especially around our mileage. Let me know if you need any other info! Always happy to share experiences with fellow Honda owners. How's your Gienia running these days?

Thanks for the update! Actually, I finally got my car checked out too. Turns out we had completely different issues! My mechanic found that it was indeed a faulty ABS sensor, just like you initially thought. Had to shell out about 200 bucks for the new sensor and labor, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The funny part is, I was so convinced it was the transmission fluid causing problems, but sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. The mechanic was great, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the corroded sensor. Been driving for a couple of weeks now and everything's working perfectly, no more warning lights flashing at me! Really appreciate you sharing your experience. It definitely helped me feel less anxious about getting it checked out. And hey, at least we both got our cars running smoothly again, even if it was through different fixes! Goes to show how the same warning lights can mean different things. Anyway, thanks again for all your help!
