Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That does sound exactly like what happened to me. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the valve assembly replacement set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since the repair? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for what I might be facing cost-wise, and that it actually solved the problem long-term.
Hey again! Yep, happy to share, I actually just had this fixed recently, and it's been running like a dream since then! The Boost pressure control position sensor was indeed the culprit, and fixing it solved all those annoying issues I mentioned before. The total bill came to 250€ for replacing the electrical bypass valve that was acting up. I can tell you it was worth every penny, no more black smoke, the jerking's completely gone, and that irritating whistling noise is history. The engine's running super smooth now, even at idle. It's honestly like driving a different car! It's been about 6 months since the repair, and I haven't had a single problem. My fuel economy's even better now, which is a nice bonus. If you're dealing with similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. Running it with these issues could lead to bigger problems down the road. Let me know if you need any other details about what to expect during the repair process!
Thanks a lot for all the info! I actually went ahead and got it fixed yesterday at a different mechanic that my recommended. You were spot on, it was the boost pressure control sensor causing all the trouble. Mine cost a bit more though, around 320€ including labor, but honestly, it was totally worth it. The whole process took about 3 hours, and what a difference! The black smoke's gone, no more jerking, and that annoying whistling noise disappeared completely. The mechanic was really great too, showed me the old part and explained everything. Way better experience than my last mechanic! Really glad I asked here first, helped me know exactly what to expect. The car's running like new now, and I'm just relieved it wasn't something more serious. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it definitely helped me make the right decision! Catch you later!
Hey there, I had very similar issues with my '09 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Diesel last summer (around 110,000 km). Those symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, the black smoke, jerking, and that distinctive whistling noise. Took it to my regular shop and turns out it was indeed the electrical bypass valve that was failing. The mechanic showed me how the valve wasn't regulating the boost pressure properly, which explained all those symptoms. Had to get the entire valve assembly replaced because these parts don't work well when repaired. The job took about 4-5 hours since they had to remove several components to access the valve. This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, running the car in that condition could've damaged the turbo and engine components.
