G37 Gear Display Dead + Warning Light Switch Issue?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Gear selection display in the speedometer without function

Hey all, having some trouble with my 2010 Infiniti G (126k km). The gear selection display stopped working and there's a warning light on the dash. I think it might be the clutch pedal switch, but I'm a bit hesitant to go back to my mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would appreciate any recommendations for reliable mechanics who've fixed similar issues. Thanks in advance!

Had a similar issue with my 2013 Infiniti Q50 last winter. The gear display was acting up and got that warning light too. Took it to my regular shop and turned out it was exactly what you suspected the clutch pedal position switch connection was loose. In my case, there was some corrosion on the wiring harness connected to the switch, and one of the pins in the connector was damaged. The mechanic had to replace the entire connector assembly and clean up the wiring. Not a major repair took about an hour to diagnose and fix. The car has been working perfectly since then. The symptoms match yours exactly gear display malfunction plus warning light. While it wasn't a serious mechanical issue, it's definitely something you want to get fixed since it's related to your transmission safety system. Just make sure whoever works on it knows their way around Infiniti electrical systems. Most decent shops should be able to handle this repair without any problems.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Quick question do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks pop up? I just want to make sure I budget properly and know what to watch out for.

Hey there! Glad to help you out with this. Yep, I got it sorted at my mechanic's last week actually total bill came to 95€ for fixing that faulty cable connection to the clutch switch. Pretty straightforward job in the end. And I've got good news since getting it fixed, everything's been working perfectly! The gear display is back to normal and that annoying warning light is gone for good. My Q50 is running like a charm now, no other electrical gremlins have shown up. Honestly, it was worth every penny just to have that peace of mind. These Infinitis are solid cars, but sometimes they just need a bit of TLC with their electronics. Must say, it's a relief when it turns out to be something relatively simple and not too expensive. Hope you get yours sorted soon sounds like you're dealing with the exact same issue I had. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the detailed info! Just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update everyone. You were spot on it was the clutch pedal switch causing all the trouble. Found a decent shop through a 's recommendation and they fixed it for about 120€, parts and labor included. Bit more than what you paid, but still reasonable. The whole thing took less than two hours. They showed me the corroded connector they replaced, and honestly, I'm just glad it wasn't anything more serious. The gear display is working perfectly now, and that pesky warning light is finally gone! Really appreciate everyone's help here, especially sharing your similar experience. It definitely made me feel better about getting it checked out instead of putting it off. Learning that it was a common issue with these models helped a lot. Now I can finally drive without staring at that warning light!
