G35 Headlight Leveling Warning Fix & Mechanic Needed

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Headlamp leveller malfunction

Hey everyone, my 2007 Infiniti G (119k km) is giving me some trouble. The headlamp leveling system seems to be acting up, and there's a warning light on my dash. Pretty sure it's about the headlight range control. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar headlight issues on their G? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get a recommendation for a reliable mechanic who knows these cars well. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I actually had a similar issue with my 2009 Infiniti M35 last summer. The headlight leveling system warning came on, and it turned out to be a faulty servomotor in the driver's side headlight assembly. Got it diagnosed at my local Infiniti specialist the servomotor had completely seized up. Had to get the headlight assembly partially disassembled to replace the motor. It wasn't a complicated fix, but you definitely want someone who knows what they're doing with these systems. These servomotors do tend to fail on Infinitis after about 100k km, so it's a known issue. This isn't a super serious problem in terms of safety, but you'll want to get it fixed because the self-leveling feature won't work properly, which can affect your nighttime visibility and might blind oncoming traffic. My advice? Skip the general mechanics and find someone who specializes in Infinitis. These headlight systems are pretty specific to the brand, and you want someone who's dealt with them before. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I was worried about the servomotor issue. Quick question: do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix? I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm in for cost-wise and whether this might be something that'll need attention again down the road.

Hey again! Yeah, I can totally help with that! I actually just got this fixed on my M35 and I can tell you exactly what it cost me ended up being 1040€ to replace that faulty servomotor in the headlight. Might seem a bit steep, but honestly, having a proper fix was worth every cent. The best part? Since getting it sorted at the mechanic, the headlight range control has been working perfectly no more warning lights or leveling issues. It's like having a new car when driving at night! The functional limitation warning completely disappeared after they fixed it. I've put quite a few miles on the car since the repair and haven't had a single problem with the system. From what my mechanic told me, once you replace these servomotors with new ones, they typically last for many years. Just make sure you get it done by someone who really knows Infinitis that's key! One thing's for sure it's such a relief not having that warning light staring at me from the dash anymore. Let me know if you need any other details!

Thanks for all the info! Just wanted to update you all on what happened. Finally got my G fixed last week at an Infiniti specialist you guys recommended. You were spot on about the servomotor that was exactly the issue. Ended up costing me around 980€, which wasn't too bad considering what you paid. The mechanic was super professional and even showed me the old servomotor it was completely shot! The whole repair took about three hours, and they even did a courtesy check on my other systems. Been driving for a week now, and what a difference! No more warning lights, and the headlights adjust perfectly at night. It's amazing how something so small can make such a big impact on driving comfort. Really appreciate everyone's help in pointing me in the right direction. If anyone else runs into this issue, definitely go straight to an Infiniti specialist saves time and headaches in the long run! Take care, everyone!
