G35 Headlight Alignment Mystery: 122k km Infiniti Needs Help

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

|

Low beam and high beam seems too high or too low

Hey everyone, my '08 Infiniti G has been giving me headlight troubles lately. The beams seem completely misaligned (pointing too high/low), and there's a warning light on my dash. I'm suspecting it might be the headlight range control system acting up. The car has about 122k km on it. Has anyone dealt with similar headlight issues? I had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and maybe some recommendations for trusted shops that have fixed this successfully. Thanks in advance!

I had the exact same issue with my 2011 Infiniti M37 last year. The headlight auto-leveling system was acting up, and it turned out to be a faulty servomotor in the right headlight assembly. The symptoms were identical misaligned beams and that annoying warning light on the dash. Took it to my regular Infiniti specialist, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly with their diagnostic tool. Had to replace the headlight leveling motor unit. The repair wasn't super complicated, but it needed to be done right to ensure proper beam alignment afterward. The whole thing was sorted in about 2-3 hours. Not really a major mechanical issue, more of an electronic/comfort feature problem. Just make sure you get it fixed soon because improper headlight alignment can be dangerous for both you and oncoming traffic. The shop also recalibrated both headlights after the repair to make sure everything was perfect. Been working flawlessly since then. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for sharing your experience! This is super helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm relieved to hear it wasn't something more serious. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical gremlins pop up?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Yeah, the total repair came to 1040€ for my M37, which included replacing that defective servomotor in the headlight and getting everything properly calibrated. Since having it fixed at my Infiniti specialist, it's been working absolutely perfectly no more warning lights or alignment issues. The auto-leveling system is working just like it should now. And nope, haven't had any other electrical problems pop up since then. The car's been running great, actually. It was a bit pricey, I'll admit, but considering how important proper headlight function is, especially for night driving, it was worth every cent. Plus, it's way better than having to deal with angry flashes from oncoming traffic thinking you're driving with high beams on! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Always happy to help another Infiniti owner!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You were spot on it was the servomotor in my headlight assembly too. Ended up paying around 980€ for everything, so pretty close to what you paid. The shop I found was great they diagnosed it quickly and had it fixed within a few hours. Had a chance to drive at night yesterday, and what a difference! The headlights are perfectly aligned now, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. Such a relief not having other drivers flash their lights at me anymore! The auto-leveling is working smoothly too. Really appreciate you sharing your experience it helped me know exactly what to expect and gave me confidence in getting it fixed. Hopefully, this helps anyone else running into similar issues with their Infiniti!
