Fuel Inefficiency and Exhaust Issues in 2016 Dacia Dokker: Potential Air Valve Complication

Strong exhaust smell

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Hey everyone! I've got a bit of a situation with my 2016 Dacia Dokker, Gasoline engine with 28341 kilometers on it. My check engine light's been on, it's been guzzling fuel like crazy and there's a strong smell of exhaust. I think it's a wonky air valve but I am not sure. Had a pretty poor experience with my last mechanic so kinda apprehensive. Anybody dealt with anything similar? Would love to hear your stories and your experiences with your mechanic. Cheers!

Hey there! Faced something quite similar with my 2019 Dacia Duster a while back. Turns out it was indeed a mucked up secondary air valve and pump. My car was also guzzling fuel like nobody's business and that exhaust smell was a killer. My mechanic took a good look and quickly figured it was a Cable/plug connection issue with the secondary air valve/secondary air pump. The thing had gone all defective on me, so yeah, it was quite a bummer. It wasn't a walk in the park, had to temporarily part ways with my ride while they sorted it out. But believe me, it was all worth it once they fixed it. My car’s been purring like a kitten since then. So yeah, your hunch might be spot on. I'd recommend getting it checked out pronto. These things can sneak up on you if you don't address them head-on. Good luck!

Hey! Appreciate you sharing your experience, it sounds almost identical to what's going on with my Dokker. Sorry to hear you had to go separate ways with your car for a bit, but glad everything's been smooth since the fix. If it's not a bother, could you recall how much the repair cost you? Also, has anything weird or related popped up since then? Be great to get as much info as possible before I take my car in. Thanks!

Hey, no worries at all! Helping a fellow Dacia owner is no bother. As far as costs go, it ran me about 95€ to fix; the whole shebang was about the Cable/plug connection on the secondary air valve/pump playing up. Not particularly cheap, let me tell you, but well worth it for the peace of mind that came after. And to answer your second question, there hasn't been any other weird stuff or related issues since the fix. My Duster's been running like dream, actually. It seems like sorting that air valve issue out did the trick. Always remember, resolving these mechanical gremlins as soon as they pop up is key. So yeah, don't wait too long before getting your Dokker checked. Good luck!

Thanks again for sending all that info over! 95€ doesn't sound like a bargain, but compared to the fuel my Dokker's currently consuming, it feels like a wise investment. Sure beats dealing with the constant smell of exhaust and worrying over the check engine light! You're not the only one who's mentioned that proactivity is key in these situations. Taking your advice on board, I've contacted a local mechanic known for dealing with Dacia models to check it out ASAP. Will make sure to update once everything's sorted. Fingers crossed my experience mimics yours! Thanks again for all the help!
