Hey Mike! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! My Freelander's been at the garage now and you were spot on, it was actually a corroded connection causing all the trouble, just like with your Discovery. The mechanic fixed it up pretty similar to how yours was done. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been working smoothly since then? Thanks! Dave
Hey Dave! Great to hear back from you! Yes, since I had my Discovery fixed, everything's been working like a charm. The wipers are now responding perfectly, no more strange behavior or warning lights. Turns out both the relay and the cable connection needed attention, but once the mechanic sorted those out, it's been smooth sailing. For the costs, I paid 155.00 € to fix the cable connection issue. Money well spent if you ask me, especially considering how essential wipers are for safe driving. It's actually quite common with these older Land Rovers to develop these kinds of electrical gremlins, but once properly fixed, they usually stay sorted. Just keep an eye on it over the next few weeks, but I'm sure you'll find, like I did, that a proper repair job sorts it out for good. These old Land Rovers are great vehicles, they just need a bit of TLC sometimes! Cheers, Mike
Hi Mike! Thanks really appreciate all your help! Just got my car back yesterday and I'm so relieved it's all sorted now. You were absolutely right about the repair cost too, mine came in around the same price range. The mechanic I found was actually fantastic, completely different from my last experience. Funny story, while I was at the garage, another guy came in with the exact same issue! The mechanic showed me the corroded bits they removed from my car, and honestly, it looked pretty nasty. Can't believe I was driving around like that for weeks! The wipers are working perfectly now, no more unusual stops or warning lights. Such a relief to have it fixed before the weather turns bad. Think I'll stick with this mechanic from now on, they really knew their stuff with Land Rovers. Thanks again for all your advice, really helped me feel more confident about getting it sorted! Cheers, Dave
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 1998 Land Rover Discovery Diesel (similar electrical system to yours). The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced last month. It turned out the cable connection at the wiper motor was corroded and had a loose ground wire, causing intermittent operation and triggering the warning light. Initially thought it was the relay too, but my mechanic found the real culprit after a thorough diagnostic. The repair involved cleaning the connections, replacing the damaged wiring section, and securing the ground wire properly. It wasn't a major repair, but leaving it unfixed could've led to complete wiper failure. Based on my experience, I'd suggest getting it checked soon, water can seep in through faulty connections and cause more extensive electrical damage. If you're not comfortable with your current mechanic, look for one specializing in Land Rovers, as they'll be familiar with these common issues. Cheers, Mike
