Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I've had my Freelander since I hit 75K km and now at 97834 KM, just after my latest service. Your Discovery issue sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing! And yeah, to answer your questions, there's actually a slight grinding noise coming from the front left wheel when turning at low speeds. The problems seem to get worse when I'm driving in wet conditions, but they're pretty much always there now. Haven't got the codes read yet, but your repair story gives me hope it won't break the bank! Guess I should get it checked out soon before it gets worse. Really appreciate your detailed response, especially since these Land Rovers can be tricky sometimes. Will probably take it to a workshop this week. Thanks again for the help!
Hey again! Thanks for getting back with those details. I totally get what you're going through, that grinding noise from the front left wheel is exactly what I experienced with my Discovery before getting it fixed! From what you're describing, especially about it getting worse in wet conditions, I'm even more convinced it's the same issue I had with the wheel speed sensor/bearing assembly. The 75K to 97K km range is typically when these parts start showing their age on these models. One thing I learned during my repair, don't wait too long to get it sorted. When mine started acting up, I drove it for about two weeks before getting it fixed, and I noticed the ABS issues were getting progressively worse. The grinding noise also got louder, which probably wasn't doing any favors for the bearing. Quick tip from my experience: when you take it to the workshop, ask them to check both front wheel bearings. Even though only one might be making noise now, the other could be close to failing too. I ended up changing both on mine just to be safe, and honestly, I'm glad I did. Let me know how it goes at the workshop, I'm curious to hear if it turns out to be the same issue. These Land Rovers might be quirky sometimes, but they're great vehicles when everything's working right!
Thanks for all the great advice! Really appreciate you taking the time to share those extra details about your repair experience. That's a solid tip about checking both wheel bearings, definitely makes sense to be proactive about it. I've booked the car in for tomorrow morning actually, and I'll make sure to mention checking both bearings to the mechanic. You're right about not waiting, I don't want to risk making things worse by driving it too long in this condition. It's so helpful hearing from someone who's dealt with the same issue. These trucks really are fantastic when they're running properly, just need to stay on top of the maintenance I guess! I'll drop you a message after the workshop visit to let you know what they find. Thanks again for all your help with this!
Hi there! I've got some experience working on Land Rovers, and I had a similar issue with my 2010 Discovery TD4. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar. Last year, my ABS and traction control lights came on, and I experienced the same power loss issues. After taking it to my trusted workshop, they found that the wheel speed sensor was faulty, and since it was integrated into the wheel bearing hub assembly, the whole unit needed replacement. The fix cost me around 170 Euro, parts and labor included. It's been working perfectly since then. Before jumping to conclusions though, could you share: Have you noticed any unusual noises from the wheels? Are these issues constant or do they come and go? Have you had any diagnostic codes read? This would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience with these vehicles.
