Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Discovery. My Freelander just hit 134681 KM and had its last service about 3 weeks ago. Yeah, those symptoms sound pretty much identical to what I'm experiencing. The issue definitely gets worse after I fill up the tank, and I've noticed a slight fuel smell, especially when it's been parked for a while. Haven't scanned for codes yet, was planning to do that tomorrow actually. It's reassuring to hear it might just be the vent lines. I was worried it might be something more serious (and expensive!). These old Landies definitely keep us on our toes, but they've got so much character it's hard not to love them. Really appreciate the help!
Hey again! Back to help with my Discovery experience. Oh that fuel smell after parking and the symptoms getting worse after filling up, that's EXACTLY what I dealt with! When you mentioned the mileage and those specific symptoms, I'm even more convinced it's the same issue I had with my Disco. Those vent lines really don't like aging! Quick update on my repair from earlier, after getting it fixed, I haven't had a single problem with it for these past 8 months. Not even a problem! The fuel smell completely disappeared too, which was such a relief. My mechanic actually showed me the old vent lines when they were replaced, they were totally shot, all cracked and brittle. Definitely get those codes scanned tomorrow, I bet you'll see something similar to what I had (P0442 or P0455 if I remember correctly). Just make sure whoever works on it uses genuine parts, my mechanic said that's super important for these systems. Keep us posted on what the scan shows! These old Land Rovers are such great cars when they're running right. Fingers crossed it's just those vent lines!
Based on the conversation, I'll complete it from's perspective: Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Those error codes you mentioned are really helpful, I'll definitely keep an eye out for them during tomorrow's scan. It's such a relief to hear your Discovery has been running perfectly since the fix. I just checked under the car and noticed the fuel smell is actually stronger than I initially thought, so I'm pretty convinced you're right about those vent lines. Really good tip about using genuine parts too, I wouldn't want to deal with this issue again anytime soon! I'll make sure to schedule an appointment with my mechanic this week. With any luck, I'll be back to enjoying my Freelander without all these issues soon. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's definitely helped put my mind at ease about the whole situation! Will keep you updated once I get it sorted.
Hey there! I've got some experience with cars. I had a really similar issue with my 2003 Land Rover Discovery about 8 months ago. My local workshop diagnosed it as defective vent lines from the tank to the valve. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing, rough running, power loss, and that annoying check engine light. The repair cost me 205 Euro, but it sorted out all those symptoms completely. My mechanic said these vent lines can deteriorate over time, especially in older Land Rovers (and Freelanders too). Before I can give you more specific advice, have you scanned for error codes? Does it get worse after refueling? Any fuel smell around the car? By the way, I love these old Land Rovers despite their quirks, my sister has a Range Rover from that era and it's got its own personality too!
