Thanks for sharing your experience! My Freelander has 174380 KM and just had its service last month. I checked the brake light switch connector under the pedal like you suggested, but it seems firmly in place. No other electrical issues to report besides these brake-related warnings. I might just need to bite the bullet and take it to a specialist to properly diagnose it. Did your Discovery ever show similar symptoms after you fixed the connector? Just wondering if I should expect this to be a recurring issue once it's fixed. Would you mind sharing what else your mechanic checked when diagnosing similar symptoms? Really appreciate the help!
Hey again! After I fixed that loose connector on my Discovery, I actually had the same issue pop up about 8 months later. But this time it wasn't just the connector, turned out the brake light switch itself had gone bad. Cost me around $150 for the part and labor, which wasn't too painful considering I was worried it might be something major with the ABS module. When my mechanic diagnosed it, they checked a few things: All fuses related to the brake system, Scanned for error codes (found some related to the brake light circuit), Tested the brake fluid level sensor, Checked all the wheel speed sensors, Tested the brake light switch with a multimeter Since your connector seems fine, I'd put money on either the brake light switch being faulty or maybe a wiring issue. These cars can be funny with their electronics sometimes! My mechanic mentioned these symptoms are pretty classic for a failed brake light switch on our models. Given your mileage, it might just be normal wear and tear. Mine had about 160K km when the switch went bad. Just make sure whoever looks at it is familiar with Land Rovers, they can be a bit tricky compared to other brands. Keep me posted on what you find out! Always curious to hear how these things turn out.
Thanks for the detailed follow-up! You know, it's really helpful to hear about your similar experience with the Discovery. After reading about your repair journey, I decided to book an appointment with a Land Rover specialist for next week. I did some digging around online too, and it seems the brake light switch is a pretty common culprit in these models, just like you mentioned. The fact that yours failed around 160K km while mine's at 174K km makes me think this could definitely be my issue too. Those diagnostic steps your mechanic took are super helpful to know about. I'll make sure to mention them when I take it in, just to ensure they cover all bases. $150 for the part and labor sounds pretty reasonable, I was honestly bracing myself for much worse, especially with Land Rover repair costs! I'll be sure to update the thread once I get it diagnosed and fixed. Maybe it'll help someone else down the line with similar symptoms. Thanks again for all the detailed info, it's really helped me feel more confident about getting this sorted!
Hey there! I actually had a similar thing happen with my 2012 Land Rover Discovery (also had a Range Rover before). I'd say I have some experience working with cars, though I'm no expert. Funny enough, it turned out to be something super simple. The brake light switch connector had just come loose under the brake pedal. After crawling under there and pushing it back in properly, everything went back to normal, ABS, brake lights, warnings, the whole deal. Didn't cost me anything since it was just a personal error. Before you start spending money at a workshop, you might want to check that connector yourself. It's usually easy to spot once you're looking under the pedal. What's the mileage on your Freelander? And have you noticed any other electrical issues? That might help narrow things down if the connector isn't the culprit. Let me know if you need more specific guidance on locating that switch!
