The main task of the water sensor is to detect water in the fuel system.Typically, this sensor is mainly used in diesel vehicles, although there are also a small number of gasoline vehicles where a water sensor is used.
Normally, the sensor is installed inside the fuel filter. From there, it measures the water content and passes the information on to the engine control unit. Depending on how much water is present, the level of the output signal changes. This signal is then processed and interpreted by the engine control unit.
