Functionality auxiliary heater
Diesel engines do not generate much waste heat, so many manufacturers use electric auxiliary heaters to improve heating performance. This works much like an instantaneous water heater and is installed in series upstream of the heater heat exchanger. Its maximum output varies depending on the vehicle.
Power is usually supplied without a fuse and directly from the generator. There is an additional connection to the engine control unit. The integrated automatic heating/air conditioning system (air conditioning control unit) requests the heating power via the engine control unit. At approx. 0°C the auxiliary heater heats up to 86°C coolant temperature and is switched off earlier at warmer temperatures.
