If this defect is detected, it may lead to the following problems:

  • Engine damage
  • Failure of the exhaust emission test (Failure to pass the exhaust emission test)

Function of intake manifold pressure sensor

The intake manifold pressure sensor is found in electronic engine control systems in fuel-injected engines. It continuously measures the intake manifold pressure in the intake tract and sends data to the engine control unit. From this, the air density and the air volume are calculated, which are used to determine the fuel delivery for optimum combustion.

Sensors such as MAF or pressure sensors are used, sometimes both. The intake manifold pressure sensor is also used for diagnostics by measuring the performance of the throttle valve and turbocharger and detecting leaks. Normally, it indicates negative pressure unless the turbocharger increases the pressure.
