Function of the exhaust gas temperature sensor

The increase in power and efficiency of today's engines means that exhaust gas temperature sensors are now used for more than just monitoring catalytic converters. Today, they protect critical engine components by monitoring turbocharger and catalytic converter temperatures in gasoline engines, and adjusting boost pressure and fuel delivery as needed.

For diesel engines, they have the additional task of controlling the temperature of the diesel particulate filter to prevent overheating and ensure the necessary temperature for filter regeneration. Sensors are therefore of central importance in modern engine technology for optimizing performance and service life.
