Function of the exhaust flap
The exhaust damper is a component of the exhaust system in modern cars. It can control the route and flow of exhaust gases to affect both the performance and sound of the vehicle. In some vehicles, the exhaust flap is also used to reduce pollutant emissions by closing it during certain operating conditions, such as cold starting, to increase exhaust gas temperature and thus improve the efficiency of the catalytic converter.
The exhaust flap can be operated manually by a switch in the vehicle or automatically by the engine control system, depending on various parameters such as engine speed, load and temperature.
