- Failure of the exhaust emission test (Failure to pass the exhaust emission test)
Function of mixture control
The mixture control system in a car is an essential part of the engine management system. It monitors and controls the ratio of air to fuel in the combustion mix, which is critical for optimal engine operation. This ratio is called the "stoichiometric ratio" and is ideally 14.7:1 air to fuel.
Sensors, especially the lambda sensor, provide data on the mixture composition, which is processed by the engine control unit. In the event of deviations from the ideal value, the control unit adjusts the injection behavior to correct the mixture. This optimizes engine performance, fuel consumption and minimizes emissions.
