Function of EGR system
The engine control unit is the heart of modern engines. It controls injection and, in gasoline engines, ignition. It uses sensor signals and parameters to provide precise engine control. Injection valves or injectors, solenoid or piezo injectors, ensure an exact injection quantity.

Due to low manufacturing tolerances, injectors have different resistance values and "characteristics". For this reason, each injector is marked with a combination of numbers and letters that must be taught in when the injector is changed. This is done to compensate for manufacturing tolerances (quantity drift compensations). This ensures clean and smooth engine running.
